I tied my apron over my maid outfit and slid into my black heels. I put on one more coat if lipstick once I finally decided to go wait backstage.
"Babe!" Michael called out.
My face lit up just by the sight if him. "Hey." I said.
"So I know I kind if just walked out in you last night-"
"Ooh what happened last night?" Cherry said teasing.
"Shut up." I walked us over further away from her. "Michael it's okay. You seem to be under a lot of stress and I understand. It's okay."
He smiled. "Well I gotta go to work. Please keep those perverts off of you? I'm trusting you." He placed his hands on my waist.
"Michael when have I ever let a guy touch me that wasn't you?"
He managed a smirk. "I'm trusting you." He repeated.
"I promise you. No guys will lay a finger in me."
"That's my girl." He placed a long kiss in my lips before finally leaving the club.
"Why not just put a camera on you?" Cherry said as we walked on stage.
"Oh shut up Cher." I handed her, her mike.
As I was performing I noticed a familiar face out in the crowd. It was Luke. He sat down at the bar with Calum as they both watched us.
————sophomore year, spring break————
"He have a beer." Michael held the bottle out in front if me.
"Oh I don't drink." I pushed it away.
"Oh come on live a little."
I shook my head. "I think I'm good."
"Michael. She said no." Jerod said putting his arm around me.
"Okay fine. Suit yourself." Michael opened the beer and drank it himself.
Jerod had begged me to come to this party with him so I decided why not you know?
"How about this." Michael said. "Let's play a game babe."
"What game exactly?" I raised an eyebrow.
"It's called I never. I'll say something I never did "this" and if you haven't. You drink. If you have. You drink. We'll go back and forth."
"Michael I don-"
"Okay it's settled." He grabbed 3 shot glasses and a bottle of straight vodka.
"Oh god…" I mumbled,
He filled up the shot glasses and handed each of us one.
"I'll go first." He placed down the bottle of vodka and picked up his shot glass. "I never drank before." We each gulped down the shot. It took me a moment to let my throat get used to the burning feeling trailing down my throat and drop into my stomach.
"Ugh." That's awful!" I said.
"Alright Jerod. Your turn." He refilled the glasses.
"Okay umm. I never started a fight."
We drank. I still struggled swallowing the vodka.
"I never…umm…" I sighed. "I never played spin the bottle."
Michael chuckled and she gulped down the vodka.
We played that game until that bottle was empty. Not even a drop left.
I couldn't even walk and I was tumbling over myself. My vision was off, I had a warm feeling sitting in my stomach and I felt loopy. I was drunk, no doubt.
"We gotta go home." I said slurping my words together.
Jerod tossed me his keys. "Let's go babe!" He began laughing and he got into the passenger side if the car.
I got in knowing I didn't even have a license, I was only in drivers ed. I had trouble putting the key into the ignition since I was laughing and so weak.
I knocked over the mail box as I pulled out and drive into the rode. I couldn't even drive into a straight line. I was driving back and forth between two lanes and at times if be taking up both sides of the rode.
All the sudden the strangest thing happened. I blinked for only a few seconds and all the sudden the car was smashed into another car.
"Holy shit!" Michael yelled. "That car drive to us." He said laughing.
We got out if the car and began running down the street falling over out own feet.
We couldn't stop laughing and we didn't even know where we were going.
The crowd cheered as we finished out performance. I jumped practically forgetting I was in stage. We walked off stage and back into the dressing room.
"Where was your head?" Cherry asked undressing herself. "You seemed a little out if it."
"Oh. Umm...I just-"
"It's because if Luke isn't it? I saw you look at him." She nudged my arm.
"Okay first if all I have Michael. And second I just zoned out,"
"Charlotte. I don't cheat unlike you."
"I don't cheat. I just live in the moment." She joked.
As I changed back into my clothes I was beginning to wonder now. I never remembered that night at the part before. I don't even remember that party. Maybe Michael did?
We walked back over to the bar and sat with Luke and Calum.
"Hey great performance." Luke said.
I smiled. "Thanks."
"So umm...Calum and I were wondering if we could take you girls out tonight?"
"Hell yeah! I need a night out." Charlotte agreed.
"Well I don't know I have to go over it with Mich-"
"Don't you dare finish that sentence." Charlotte warned.
I instantly closed my mouth.
"Your not his pet okay? Your a human being. And if want to go out. You fucking go out."
I sighed. "Well I still have to tell him."
"Fine. But if he keeps you from going so help me god I'll kick your ass."
I laughed. "Okay."
Once I got home I explained to Michael that Calum, Luke and Charlotte wanted to go out tonight. He wasn't really happy about it. Mainly the fact that I was planning in going no matter what his answer was.
"So what you are just gonna go?"
"Michael you always leave in the middle of the night so why is it so hard to let me go out one night!?"
"Actually. Fine. Go."
I knew he was mad but, I never got to go out. It was about time I went out with friends.
There was a knock on the door. "That's Charlotte." I said.
"Go." He said throwing up his hands.
"Michael." I pleaded.
"Whatever." He went into the bedroom and slammed the door shut.
I sighed. Before I opened the door I put on a fake smile. "Charlotte." I said as she walked me to her car. I sat in the backseat with Luke while Calum sat in the passengers seat.
"You okay?" Luke asked.
"Yeah I'm perfectly fine."
I watched my house shrink into the distance as we drive away from it. I knew Michael was in there ranting about the fact I was going somewhere without him.
I felt guilty for doing this. It made me want to jump out if the car and run back but, something inside refused to let me continue felling this way.
"So the last time I went out with a bunch of friends we ended up getting so wasted we nearly crashed into a car since we hoped into a car wasted." Luke said laughing.
"Damn I hope I get drunk enough." Charlotte added.
"That's what happens when you play games with shots of vodka."
"Jerod!" Michael could barley speak from him much he was laughing. "I think I- I think- I hear the fuzz."
We couldn't take the laughter. We each collapsed and fell I to the ride and lied there just laughing for no reason.
Before we knew it a few cops were standing over us shining flashlights into our eyes.
"Hey man do ya mind?" I asked.
"Is that y'all's car back there kids?" The officer asked still shining the light in our eyes.
"Oh yeah!" Jerod yelled.
"Have you kids been drinking?"
Michael slowly stood up off the ground and placed his hand on the officers shoulder and breathed into his face.
"Honestlyofficer. We're fucked up!"
I bursted out into laughed and rolled onto my stomach.
I felt a hand grip onto my arm and place me onto the car.
I looked down at my feet not bothering to look up at the officer. We had been taken to the police station and we had been there for about and hour. I wasn't focused and we were just cracking jokes.
"Christina!" A familiar voice called out.
I looked up and saw my mom and my dad. My dad was in crutches and both if them had looked like they were crying.
"I want to apologize agin for your loss." The officer said.
My parents looked me dead in the eyes and glared at me. I payed no mind.
My mother stood me up and led me to the car.
"Do you realize what you have done!?" My father yelled.
I sat there not even realizing he was speaking to me.
"You think it's okay to just party whenever you want and get drunk!?"
"And getting behind the wheel!?" My mother added on. "You crashed right into your father!"
My father looked back at me with tears in his eyes. "You killed my mother!" His voice cracked,
I say there in the backseat still out if it. I was still drunk. I had never had alcohol in my system before so drinking that vodka had a major effect on me.
"Your own grandmother." His voice shook. "And you don't even care…"
My car door opened and Charlotte was shouting my name. I finally snapped out if my head and I quickly got out if the car and stared at her blankly for a moment.
After all these years. I made myself forget…it was all finally coming back to me. Those nights I stayed up late. Cried into my pillow. I told myself over and over again it wasn't my fault. The pills I would shove down my throat to make me forget. And then that one night it finally stick into my head. I made myself believe that the drunk driver that hit my grandmother wasn't me…
But it was me. I killed her…that was why my family hated me so much…why my dad beat me. Why my mom treated me the way she did.
I felt a tear go down my cheek.
"Babydoll you okay?" She asked.
Then it hit me. I broke down to the floor in tears. She fell to her knees trying to help me up. I refused so she sat down on the ground and held me as I cried.
