Twelve Hours Earlier...
"Do you have any valid reason for me to do this Mr. Dennis?" the lady in the white coat asks.
"Here's your reason," I answer while throwing a wad of cash on to the counter.
She looks surprised by the amount of money I'm offering, a total of eight hundred dollars. She nods her head and gestures to a back room that I follow her to.
"Just open your mouth," she orders.
I do as told and she takes a swab of my DNA and places it in a plastic tube. She looks at me a little confused.
"I don't usually compare DNA to one person," she frowns.
I reach down to my backpack I brought and pull out the bag with her water bottle I got from the meet and greet. I thrust it to the woman and she raises her eyebrow.
"She couldn't make it. Here's her sample though," I explain.
She takes the bag and scurrys off to another room. I sigh and follow her, but when I reach the doorway she stops me in my tracks.
"You can't be in here. Give me your number and we'll call you when the results come back," she orders.
I rip a scrap of paper off a nearby book carelessly and the lady hands me a pen. I scribble my cell phone number down and she grabs it while slamming the door behind her.
I start to make my way out to the parking lot to my car. The whole time I'm trying to avoid those flashbacks of that one night thirteen years ago.
I remember when I bumped into her at Starbucks yesterday. When she told me who her mother was, and after seeing how much she looked like me, I got really scared.
I was a small twelve year old who wasn't all that popular in school. I had a small group of friends and my best friend at the time and I were both at home talking on the phone.
He was trying to get me to sneak out of the house with him. I was reluctant at first because it was like eleven o'clock at night. I eventually agreed though and snuck out my bedroom window, and we met up at the park.
When we got there we noticed a woman sitting on one of the park benches sobbing. My best friend, Sam, being the lady's man he is, wanted to go talk to her.
"Dude! She's really fucking hot!" Sam hissed.
"She's like twenty years old and we're not even teenagers yet!" I whispered.
Sam wouldn't take no for an answer, and I knew I couldn't let him go over there alone, so I followed him. When we got there I saw the look in her eyes and she was really fucking drunk, she had a couple of beer bottles lying on the grass beside the bench.
"What's the matter gorgeous?" Sam smiled while I facepalmed.
"My boyfriend cheated on me!" She sobbed.
Sam sat next to her and rubbed her back, she looked up at me and I tried to avoid her eye contact.
"Um...could you do me a favor and go get my purse?" She asked Sam, pointing in the direction of a car.
He smiled and nodded his head. He got up and just before he could start walking towards the car, she pulled a needle out of her pocket and jammed it in his arm. He sunk to the ground and was out like a light.
Before I could finish my sentence she jammed me with the needle also. Within seconds I too was unconscious.
I remember waking up with something heavy on me. I realized it was the woman, and when I realized what was going on I started screaming for Sam.
"He's not here," she growled.
"What did you do to him?!" I cried.
"Nothing. He's still passed out in the park," she answered.
Hours passed and I thought afterwards she was gonna kill me. But she simply dumped me back at the park. Sam was wide awake by then and sitting on the bench all dazed.
"Dude. Where did you go? And where's your fucking pants?" He mumbled dizzily.
"Forget it. Let's just go home," I replied.
I never told anyone what happened that night, I was just too ashamed I guess. When I got home my parents were still asleep and I just hopped in the shower and stayed in it for literally an hour and a half.
When my flashback ends I realize I'm still sitting in my car in the parking lot. Damn. So much for not letting the flashback happen. Whatever.
