Matthews POV: really hope Maya wakes up. I don't want her to die, but it's her choice. Cam decided to take me to this place called, Steak 'n' Shake. I've never been here before, but Cam told me that it's Maya's favorite place to eat. It's a retro diner and have a lot of food options.
"What can I get you guys today?" The waiter asked.
"Can I have some water please?" I asked.
"And can I have some coke please?" Cam asked.
The waiter nodded and walked away. (I don't remember the Steak 'n' Shake menu and I can't look it up since I don't have very good wifi at the moment). The waiter came back and took our orders. Can knew that I didn't really want to talk about Maya. He still brought her up.
"What are you going to do when Maya wakes up?"
"I don't know Cam. I don't think she even loves me back."
"I should probably tell you, what I have to tell Maya. Well...she's adopted."
Did I just hear Cam correctly. Maya's adopted. I thought she was with her birth parents. She has Cam, Sierra and then her parents.
"Matt...you okay? You look a little pale."
"Why haven't you told Maya?"
"I don't know...I don't want her to go out and look for her real parents. She can't meet them anyways...only there graves."
"What do you mean?"
"Maya's parents were killed on there way to their wedding. Maya's real name is Zoey, named after her mother. It was a bad rainy day, when the tires slid. Maya's mom put her body over Maya. Glass pieces were everywhere. Maya's dad died instantly, her mom died in surgery. My parents were looking to adopt but close friends were fostering Maya. They planned a vacation but didn't want to take Maya, since they were going to Vegas. My parents took her in and wanted to adopt her. Out friends were fine with it and a few days later, Maya was part of the family."
"Wow...I see why you don't want to tell Maya."
We ate out food and headed back to the hospital. Cam and I needed a break from that cold, depressing place.
“Excuse me. Are you mr. Espinosa?” A nurse, that frequently checks on Maya, asked.
“Yes…” I responded.
“Come with me.”
The nurse led to the ICU room that Maya was in. She was still in a coma...I think. The tube that helped Maya breath is gone and she has less machines around her.
“I’ll leave you alone.”
The nurse walked out and I contemplated what to do. Maya looked so peaceful while she slept. I held her hand and just sat there. All of a sudden, Maya embraced her hand in mine.
