Look After You

"There's not much time." He croaked, his voice raspy and faint. I watched in horror as the life drained from his pale face. He was dying. My best friend was dying.
He groaned and looked at me pleadingly. "I'm all she has left. If I'm gone she has no one. Please Lou. Please. I need you to take care of her."
I gave him a faint smile, a tear rushing down my cheek. "I will."
My best friend gave me one last hopeful look as the blood continued to flow from his chest. "I need you to promise to protect her. Keep her away from the rest of your band. Protect her like she's your little sister."
I sighed and bowed my head, trying to hide my devastated face. "I promise."

14. The Worse is Yet to Come

My eyes went wide at the sight of the Irish lad. Something obviously went down between the two of them, because at the sight of Louis, Niall's face became red.

"Didn't think you'd still be here Saige." He fumed, stepping out of the elevator. He took a step toward me but then backed up at the scowl on Louis' face.

"Don't even go there Niall." He warned, bringing me to his waist. Niall smirked.

"So she doesn't know."

"Shut up."

He chuckled. "Don't worry. She'll find out soon enough." I watched as he strolled past us and down the hall, Louis yanking me in the elevator as he went out of view.

"What was that?" I whispered after a few moments of silence.

"Nothing." He responded just as the doors open. I sighed and followed him out of the hotel. I didn't like him keeping things from me.

Outside the hotel was terrifying. It was pouring, but that wasn't the bad part, it was the large group of people with cameras surrounding the entrance. Flashes were everywhere, and the sounds of shouts was so overpowering I couldn't make out a word over the muffled rain. Louis put his coat around me, seeing as I was foolish not to bring one. I squeezed his hand thankfully and let him drag me through the mob. I tried to focus on my breathing rather than the endless amount of phones and cameras put in front of me.

"Louis! Who is your special lady?!" I heard a woman scream next to me. I leaned away from her as more shouts became understandable.

"Are you guys dating?!"

"Is this the secret girl?!"

"Was she the cause of the accident?" I flinched at the sudden remembrance of the flashing blue and red lights and the black bag.

"Is she your guys' new play thing?" Louis stopped dead in his tracks, causing the people to crowd us further, and turned to the man who asked the question. The rain drizzling down his face seemed to steam at the contact of his red cheeks.

"What did you say?" He took a step towards the short man. "Because if you say what I thought you said, than you better be able to run fast."

The man smirked, his camera still placed in the air as he captured Louis' threat. "I asked a simple question Mr.Tomlinson, no need to get offended. It's not like your not questioned all the time about your sexuality eh?"

"You bastard." Louis fumed taking another step toward him. I quickly pulled his arm back.

"Stop." I warned both of them.

"And it speaks." He grimaced.

"Hey asshole," I screamed over the pounding of the rain. "Why don't you do the world a favor, and take your shitty camera and your shitty face somewhere else?! What exactly is your job huh? Making peoples lives hell? Don't you have any respect for yourself?" The words raced out faster than I could catch them. He didn't seem the least but fazed, just amused by my outburst.

"Sorry to bother you." He laughed. "While your out Louis, you might want to buy that thing a collar." I almost pounced him there, but he slipped to quickly away from the crowd for me to wrap my hands around his neck.

"Let's go." Louis wrapped his hand around my arm and yanked me towards the car.

Once were in the car, it took a long time to get out of the parking lot due to overwhelming rain and constant flashes. How many pictures do they need?

"Louis?" I whispered after we finally escaped the mob.

"Thank you." He blurted out, putting his hand on my thigh.

"I probably would've killed that guy if you weren't there." He sighed. "He's an asshole. I shouldn't have let him get to my head. I'm sorry."

"He was an asshole." I agreed, as I intertwined my fingers with his. Louis smiled and took a left onto a street, passing by the bowling alley.

"Never got to bowling." He said, reading my thoughts. "Maybe later?"

The store was only a few minutes away. After getting a couple rods, some bait and a tackle box, we made our way to the checkout of the Walmart. Louis placed the items on the counter and gave the woman a small smile before giving her his credit card.

I turned around and my eyes met a pair of dark green ones. I took a step away from the familiar brunette. She was alone, a small blue basket with produce in her petite hands.

"Saige?" She asked again, taking another step towards me. I took another step back. "Can't you speak?" She joked.

"I need to go." I said, turning on my heel and walking towards the entrance without thinking. I could hear Louis yelling after me, but I didn't stop until I was out of the store and at the car. It was still raining, the water drenching my hair.

"What happened?" Louis asked when he returned, poles and bags in hand.

"Jackie." I sighed. "She was in there."

"Did you talk to her?"

"I can't Louis. I'm not supposed to." I explained harshly. "She hasn't communicated with me, even when Ross died. Nothing and she expects me to talk all casual?"

"I do."

I turned to see Jackie standing next to our car. I sighed.

"I'm sorry." She said, taking a step towards me. "I should've called. I should've came to the funeral, something I know but I was just so busy here and with Tony and I am sorry." Her hands tried to squeeze my shoulders but I stepped away, causing her to stumble a bit before quickly recovering herself.

"Just go away Jackie. I'm happy without you. I have my own family now as do you."

Jackie narrowed her eyes. "Him?" She scoffed pointing to Louis. "He's your family. I thought he's the dick from when you were young. I suppose all is forgiven?" She laughed mockingly. How dare she laugh at him? At me?

"Whatever, I don't need this." I said, pushing past her and into the passenger seat. I looked away from her face through the rain covered window as we pulled out.

I opened my eyes to the sight of the top of the car. It had gotten dark, the night sky littered with thousands of white dots. I lifted my head off the side of the door and glanced at Louis, his body curled up on the drivers seat. Where are we?

"Louis." I whispered. He groaned as he sat up, rubbing his head gently. "Where are we?"

"Oh," he yawned. "Sorry, you fell asleep and the paparazzi was even bigger when I passed by. I didn't want to take you through that. Today has been long enough."

"So where are we?" I asked again.

"In the back lot of the hotel. It's blocked off so only people with keys can get in. Zayn said he would call when it's all clear."

I nodded. "I can't believe they are still here. Don't they have anything better to do?"

He chuckled. "Don't worry the hotel management will kick them out soon enough."

"It's always like this?" This kind of swarming and attention is rather strange, famous or not.

"Mostly." He smirked and grabbed my wrist, pulling me over the center console and on to his lap. "But now they have another gorgeous person to take pictures of." He grabbed my waist and kissed me softly. I grabbed his hair, pulling the ends and pressing our bodies further together. The way our bodies molded perfectly together was enough to make my heart skip a beat.

"Twice in one day?" He winked. I rolled my eyes.

"No sir." I laughed.

"Don't worry, I'll fuck you in my car another time." I blushed in embarrassment, digging my face into his neck.

"Ugh. Zayn's calling." He groaned and brought the phone to his ear. After a brief conversation, Louis sighed and hung up, starting the ignition of the car.

"It's all clear." Louis declared. I tried to get off his lap so he could drive but he pushed me back down, giving me a smirk.

"Your fine, it's only a turn."

I smiled and buried my head back into his neck.

"Are you alright?" Zayn asked as soon as we stepped off the elevator. He must have been waiting up for us. How sweet.

"Yeah we are fine." I answered, putting my arm around Louis' waist. "We got some sleep while we were waiting."

He sighed. "I've got to show you two something." He gestured us down the hall and we followed him into his room where Niall lay asleep on his bed. The tv was glowing, the image paused. Zayn grabbed the remote and pushed play. A lady came on the screen and started to speak about the latest celeb news. After a few minutes, she started to speak about one direction and I listened closely, her pitchy voice ringing in my ears.

"One direction are in Virginia today with their mystery girl." She explained. "This girl has been spotted several times in the last few weeks with all the boys. She's been awfully close to the eldest 1d member, Louis Tomlinson." A picture of me and Louis at the park kissing popped up. So much for privacy.

"But this isn't are only picture." The blonde continued. "She's been spotted with all the boys at least once." Three pictures of me and the boys popped up. One of me and Zayn at the beach, one of me and Liam in the car, and one of me and Harry outside the hotel. "Let's not forget the little stunt Niall Horan pulled at the concert awhile back." The clip of Niall dragging me on stage came to full screen. How do people get this stuff so quickly and efficiently?

"Today we caught her and Louis outside their hotel, both of them threatening an innocent man, take a look." The video of the paparazzi mess this morning came into view and I gasped. All of the taunting comments from the camera man was edited out and replaced with things like 'sorry' 'how you doing guys?' What a load of bullshit!

"Not even a few hours after her outburst, a source caught a photo of Louis and her making out in his car." The video was replaced with a pic of me on Louis' lap in his car not even a half an hour ago. "Looks like they made up!"

The blonde came back on the screen and I never thought I'd be so happy to see so much spray tan. "So the big question is, who is this mystery girl? And who let her off the reins?" She giggled. "Is Louis and her a thing or is Mr.Niall Horan interested? Or maybe she all of one directions plaything. This is-" I didn't get to hear her name because Louis furiously turned off the tv, chucking the remote on the bed.

"This is bullshit! How dare that asshole do that?! To Saige?!" He yelled, as he paced in a circle, his fingers rubbing his temples in frustration.

"Louis," I whispered. "It's fine. I'll be okay. They are pathetic."

He stopped and grabbed my face in his hands. "They're liars. I don't want them to know who you are. It will ruin everything." He kissed my forehead softly.

"I'll be fine." I assured.

"I hate paparazzi."

I chuckled. "Me too."

Even though this seems to be one of the worst days, I have this gut feeling the worse is yet to come. By the way Niall talked to me and Louis and the way Zayn was nervous, it all gives me questions I probably never will get answers to.

The worse is yet to come.
