4. The boat ride

The adults had arrived back at our spot an hour later and I asked my grandpa if it would be alright to take Jack and some of the older (Dakota{12}Anna{11}Jake{9}and Ian{10}) out around the lake. He said it was okay and we went over all of the rules. I put life jackets on everybody including Jack and I And we decided to let the four kids go on the tube first. I didn't want to go too fast, but I did want to try and get Dakota off of the tube. Which I am proud to say that I succeeded. Then we decided to just have Jack go by himself. And for him? I made sure to go extremely fast.

He jumped onto the tube and went on the very back, where you had to kneel. I turned around for 'ok' to go and he gave me a thumbs up. I started off slow, but the kids told me to go faster, so I did. The moment I took a right, Jack went flying and smashed the water. I slowed the boat down and turned around to wear I saw him bobbing in the water. I set the steps on the side of the boat so he could get on and when he did, someone started screaming Jack's name.

We all looked over to see another boat next to ours with a whole lot of guys in it. Jack jumped in the boat and grabbed a towel to dry off. "Jack!!" The boys kept screaming.

"Hey guys!" Jack yelled back.

"What are you doing?" One of them screamed.

"Meet me back at the campsite in a half hour. We are going to drive around the lake!" He screamed back and they gave him a thumbs up.

I started the boat back up and started driving. Jack sat on the seat near me, and the rest of the kids sat at the front of the boat.

"So you like driving this thing, huh?" Jack asked watching the water.

"Boating has been my favorite ever since I was little. My grandpa taught me how to drive when I was 11 years old. It's always been something we like to do together." I smiled as I started to speed up.

"How old are you now?" He asked.

"I turn 17 this month. You?" I ask watching the water.

"17, I turn 18 in September. What day is your birthday?" He asks me, staring at me.

I laugh "Actually it's-"

"Channing!!" Dakota yelled

"Yeah!?" I yelled back

"I want to go back on the raft!" He yelled

"Alright, who is going with you?" I slowed the boat down so Dakota could come by me.

"No one!" He complained.

I shook my head "You can't go by yourself. I know you have a life jacket on, but gramps said no one can go alone unless Jack wanted to."

"I can go with him" Jack smiled strapping his lifevest back on.

"Are you sure?" I asked and he smiled at me once again. And at that moment, where Jack was honestly as close to my cousins as I was, I began to think differently of him. I have literally known this guy for a few hours and I thought to myself 'This is the first time that I have ever felt like this.'

After awhile, we decided to go back to camp. I drove close to the dock and had Jack jump onto the dock so he could pull the boat in and tie it to the dock. I helped the kids get off then Jack took my hand and as soon as we touched, our eyes connected and he smiled at me. I stood on the seat of the boat and Jack placed his hands on my waist so he could lift me out of the boat.

"Thanks" I smiled at him with our bodies close to each others.

Jack Gilinsky:

With our bodies close together I smiled down at her. Me being 6'2" she wasn't that much shorter than me. She was probably around 5'9". I looked into her bright blue eyes and melted. It may sound cheesy, but she literally made me melt. I barely just met the girl and she gave me butterflies. I just wish she felt the same. At that moment, I grabbed a hold of her waist and launched her into the lake. And once she hit the water, she didn't come back up. I went to the edge of the lake and knelt down to try and see into the lake water, but there was no sign of movement.

"CHANNING!!" I screamed rising up and pacing across the dock waiting for her to swim to the top. Then I heard footsteps running towards me. I looked over to see all the guys running towards me. I felt my eyes getting warm as water appeared in them.

"Bro, what's going on?" Nash yelled.

I ran my fingers through my hair and then ripped my shirt off. I jumped into the lake and started to swim under searching for Channing. I swam back up to the surface and looked at them. "I CAN'T FIND HER!! I DIDN'T MEAN TO HU-" I started but was interrupted by being dragged underwater. I swam back up and looked over to see Channing and some of the boys laughing.

"Channing! That wasn't fucking funny!" I screamed at her. She stopped laughing and looked at me in the eyes.

"Jack, I'm sorry! It was just a joke!" She said lifting herself back up on the dock.

"I thought you drowned. You nearly gave me a heart attack." I said hiding the rest of my tears.

"You weren't crying, were you bro?" Cameron said chuckling and the rest of the guys said.

'Whatever, just help me up." I said reaching for Channing's hand. She grabbed onto mine and I pulled her back into the water.

"Jack!" She screamed. I laughed at her.

"Payback is a bitch." I laugh and at the same time we lifted ourselves out of the water.
