2. Making New Friends

Chapter 2

Making New Friends

“Weird name” the girl with the red hair said.

“Really? I don’t think so.” Alex answered.

“I find it terrific!” the girl with the blonde hair said in a dreamy tone.

“Thank you!” Alex thanked her.

“You name shows that you don’t come from here” said the red hair girl. “Where do you come from?”

“You are a Greek, aren’t you?” said the girl with the blonde hair in a dreamy tone again.

“Exactly!” confirmed Alexandra.

“Wow! My name is Ginny Weasley” said the girl with the red hair. “This is Neville Longbottom (she showed the boy in front of me), this is Luna Lovegood (she now showed me the girl next to me) and this is Harry Potter (she finally showed the boy next to her)”.

But of course she knew who he was. He was the famous Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, the boy who vanished Voldemort the most powerful dark wizard of all time. The scar on the right side of his forehead betrayed his past. She had seen it by mistake when she entered the corridor. But she didn’t stare at it. She looked straight in his eyes, those bright green eyes. Harry founded curious; people used to stare at his scar when they learned who he was, not his eyes. He took his look away at the sound of Neville’s voice. Alex did the same.

“Hey! I know you! We were met last year, at the Triwizard Tournament. You came with the Beauxbatons Academy. Do you remember me?” Neville wondered.

“Of course I do! How could I not remember you? How are you Neville? You’ve changed! And hey! You got taller!” said Alex exited.

“I am quite good! You’ve changed too! You are…you are…I mean…I can’t really describe how you look now! You are definitely stunning” Neville said the same excited.

“Really? It’s hard to believe you!”

“No, I mean it!”

“Wait a second!” Ginny interrupted them “Neville you said that she was here last year with the Beauxbatons Academy!”

“Well yeah” Alex started. “I was in Durmstrang for the first two years of my magical education and then for another two years I was in Beauxbatons and I finally came here. I hope I stay here for more than two years. But that’s what I said when I arrived in Beauxbatons…”

At this point the girl stopped and she seemed to remember something unpleasant for her and by the time Harry opened his mouth to ask her why she changed so many schools, she finally spoke.

“But I am not here tell you my past, am I?” she joked.

“Are you okay Alex? What happened again so you had to change school?” asked her Neville, who seemed a little bit worried.

“Why? What happened before?” Harry spoke for the first time.

“It’s such a great story! If I start telling it to you, it will take all the way long to Hogwarts. I don’t think you want this, do you? And I’ll tell you later Neville. It isn’t the proper time now.” She said nervously.

“Anyway…If you were here last year with Beauxbatons, then how old are you?” said Ginny breaking the awkward silence.

“I am fifteen. I know that you are going to asked what I was doing at Hogwarts last year since I was underage to compete in the Triwizard Tournament. Madam Maxime thought it would be good for me to meet other people. I recon she was right.” She answered with no sign of sadness or anxiety in her voice.

Their talk was interrupted by the Trolley Witch who was passing in front of their corridor. Ginny, Harry and Neville stood up to buy something to eat and Alex looked them in a disgusted look. She couldn’t really eat anything because of the fact the feeling that she had eaten sponge. She had hardly drunk the glass of milk her mom had prepared this morning before she left for the King’s Cross Station.

She already missed her mom. And her dad of course. She wanted to be home-schooled for the rest of her magical education, but her parents were disagreed saying that she ought to be near and meet other people. Especially in condition she was.

“Won’t you get anything?” Harry asked her. He had just noticed her disgusted yet troubled face.

“No. I am afraid I am so nervous that I can eat nothing now. Really…” she said sheepishly.

They came in holding what they bought. Several sweets whose names weren’t unknown to Alex. Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans, Pumpkin Pasties and Chocolate Frogs. Chocolate Frogs were among her favorite of the wizard’s candies and sweets. Too bad that I can’t eat anything, she thought.

She took out of her trunk the Defensive Magical Theory by Wilbert Slinkhard book and started reading it while the others started eating their sweets; well Harry, Ginny and Neville did. Luna just kept reading the magazine she was holding upside-down.

She may have started reading the book interested to see how the teaching would be like this year but she soon closed it, angry by the nonsense which written in the book. Now she was just curious to see what kind of person would believe and (the most important) teach that kind of stuff.

“Don’t worry.” It was Luna. Nobody else seemed to have noticed her anger, but her.” My father finds odd the book selection too.”

“Oh…Great…” said not that excited. She liked Luna but something on her made Alex creep.

She had hid her face again behind her magazine. Oh well, Alex thought and turned to Neville to start talking to him.

About an hour later the door of the corridor opened and a ginger hair boy with a bushy, brown hair came in. A noisy little owl and a cat with ginger fur were held by the boy and the girl respectively.

“I’m hungry” said the ginger hair boy resting his owl next to a snowy-white owl, and grabbed a Chocolate Frog of Harry’s while sitting next to him. He opened the wrapping, bit the Frog’s head and leaned back closing his eyes, like he had a very tiring morning.

“There are two fifth years Prefects of each house” said the bushy hair girl unpleasantly while sitting next to Alex. “A girl and a boy”
“Guess who is Slytherin’s Prefect” said the ginger hair boy without opening his eyes.

“Malfoy” answered Harry right away.

“Of course” said bitterly the ginger hair boy eating the rest of the Frog and taking another one.

“And this cow Pansy Parkinson” added angrily the bushy hair girl. “I wonder how she was made Prefect. She is more stupid than stupefied Mountain Troll…”

“Who are from Hufflepuff?” asked Harry.

“Ernie McMillan and Hannah Abbott“said the ginger hair boy.

“And Anthony Goldstein and Padma Patil from Ravenclaw” added the bushy hair girl.

“In the Yule Ball you had gone with Padma Patil” Luna said in the same dreamy tone.

Everybody turned their face to Luna who was looking emotionless the ginger hair boy over her magazine. Alex just noticed that its name is The Quibbler.

“I know” the ginger hair boy said surprised.

“She didn’t have fun” Luna informed him. “She believes that you didn’t behave well towards her because you didn’t dance with her. I wouldn’t mind” she added sceptical. “I don’t like dancing” she said and hid another time behind her magazine.

With this Alex took another book out of her trunk and started reading it. She was soon interrupted though by the laughs of the others about a joke the ginger hair boy. And most of all Luna who laughed so hard annoying the other’s animal, dropping her magazine and fell on the floor laughing. Alex laughed a bit and returned at her reading.

“Who are you?” a voice spoke towards Alex.

“Ron! Don’t be so rude!” the bushy hair girl shouted at him. “I’m Hermione Granger. Nice to meet you! “She then said smiling at Alex.

“I’m Alexandra Michelakis. But you can call me Alex. Nice to meet you too. And I find it normal for him to be curious about me. Please don’t shout at him” she said.

“Thank you! I’m Ron Weasley” the ginger hair introduced himself.

“Nice to meet you too.” She said. “Wait a moment. Is Ginny your sister?“ she asked.

“Yes, she is.” Ron answered.

“Oh! It must be great having siblings. I don’t know the feel. I am an only child, you know.” She said excited

“Yeah I guess. I have five older brothers” he said.

“That means that you are seven siblings? Wow! That’s a lot of children” she got wowed.

“Yeah…Found anything interesting?” he then asked Harry who had finished reading Luna’s magazine.

“Come on!” commented Hermione. “The Quibbler is rubbish, everybody knows that.”

“Excuse me” Luna’s voice was sound a bit pissed now. “My father is the publisher you know”.

“Eh…I mean…I want to say…It has some interest…it is a lot…” said Hermione awkwardly.

“Could you give me it back, please?” said coldly and grabbed it from Harry’s hand, turned to page 57 and continued reading upside-down, while the corridor door opened for the fifth time.

This time it was Malfoy. He was laughing mischievously surrounded by two beefy boys.

“What…” was all what Harry managed to say before Malfoy spoke.
“Be more polite, Potter, if you don’t want to give you detention” said Malfoy. “You see, I, unlike you, became Prefect, which means that I, unlike you, have the right to give detentions”

“Definitely” answered Harry, “but you, unlike me, are git, so go away and leave as alone.”

Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Neville and Alex laughed. Malfoy didn’t like it at all.

“So tell me, how does it feel to be second-best to Weasley, Potter?” he asked.

“Shut up, Malfoy” said Hermione sharply.

“I seem to have touched a nerve,' said Malfoy, smirking. “'Well, just watch yourself, Potter, because I'll be dogging your footsteps in case you step out of line.”

“Get out” Hermione shouted, standing up.

“Oh and you must be the new one! Alexandra Michelakis, right?” said Malfoy while checking on her.

“Yes. And you must be Draco Malfoy. Oh thanks for the compliment. Pfft! Please! You wouldn’t date me even in your dreams!” said Alex laughing.
“How’d you know? I didn’t say anything!” he said surprised.

“Yeah but you thought!” she said still laughing. “Now get out!” she said and pushed him out of the corridor.

“What did you mean when you said that ‘Yeah but you thought’?” Alex was asked by Ginny.

“Oops! I should have not said that! Well as you all see I can read minds and not only! I can also read thoughts, see memories and desires and everything that has to do with the mind.” She explained. “But please don’t ask me more about this. And promise me something: that you will be friends with me because if I have to be friends with a git like Malfoy, I’m going to kill myself.”

‘We’d love to be your friends, right?” said Ginny.

Everyone agreed. Alex smiled at everybody. She just made new friends. And they were all awesome. She looked around her.  Harry and Hermione seemed very troubled and she knew why. They should be worried with what Malfoy said. But Alex couldn’t really care about it right now. She was far too happy to be worried about anything this moment.
