4. Boyfriend Issues

Carrie's POV

I met this girl Lydia at lunch and she seemed really nice. She told me she apparently had two brothers, one who was a twin named Josh, who was sick today and couldn't come to school, and another who was in his first year of college named Mark. She was the middle child because she was born two hours before Josh, but it didn't really matter to her. By the way she acted in the group I was sitting with, she seemed like she was probably the leader, or at least the right hand girl of Caroline. They looked nothing alike, but sometimes they acted the same, Lydia only shared Caroline's good traits though thankfully.

"So Carrie, anyone special in your life? Like do you have a boyfriend back home or something." Caroline spoke up.

"Uh, no, not exactly." I stumbled out.

"What do you mean?" she pressed.

"Well, I had a boyfriend, but we broke up, so ya know." I confessed in embarrassment.

"I'm sorry about that." Bonnie consoled.

"It's fine, not like it's your fault." I sighed.

"What was his name." Lydia's voice added to the conversation.

"Damon, Damon Salvatore."

"What!?!" She half shouted in shock.

"I said his name was Da-"

"I know what you said, I just can't believe it, you can't be her, you can't be here!" Lydia looked almost on the verge of hysterics.

"What do you mean? Did I say something wrong?" I asked nervously.

"No, never mind. I'm not hungry anymore, excuse me." she spoke quickly before rising from the table and walking out.

I noticed our whole table went silent and I saw Stefan share glances with Matt, Jeremy, Bonnie, Caroline, and Elena before getting up and leaving the room as well.

"What just happened there?" I questioned cautiously.

"Your ex, Damon, well, he's Lydia's boyfriend right now, and he's not exactly over you completely. Lydia gets pretty pissed off that he still gets upset about your break up, but she's been the one picking up the pieces." Jeremy explained.

"I don't understand though, why would she react like that then?" I asked.

"She's scared. She knows Damon still has feelings for you and she really loves him. She doesn't want to lose him. She kind of resents you a bit too because you've mad him so sad lately." Caroline answered.

"Why did Stefan leave?"

"He's Damon's brother, and he and Lydia get along really well. They're like best friends, and as he likes to say, she's his favorite of Damon's girlfriends. You didn't know Damon had a brother?" Elena finally spoke.

I shook my head for a no. Damon told me all his family was gone. I just always thought that meant they all died, but I guess not.

"Just give Lydia space, don't go near Damon, and be nice to her. She'll come around soon." Matt added, patting my hand.

"You sure that will work?" I asked hesitantly.

"Positive. I've been friends with her since we were little kids. Trust me, it will work."

Lydia's POV

This couldn't be happening, it just couldn't. How could that possibly be her, why would she come here, why would she do this! I couldn't contain myself, I was having a panic attack from all of this! I ran down the hall to the girls bathroom and went in, slumping down against the wall and trying to breathe. Tears were streaming down my face as frantic thoughts ran through my mind. What if she tried to take Damon from me? What if she broke his heart again? What if-

"Lydia?" My thoughts were interrupted by a familiar voice.

"In here, Stefan." I managed to choke out.

I saw his emerge from the doorway and kneel down in front of me, lifting my face up to look at him. I tried to look away, but he wouldn't let me.

"Lydia, please, look at me."

"I don't know what to do, Stefan." I whimpered.

"I know, I know. Listen to me, you need to calm down. Okay? Can you do that?" he was being very calm and gentle with me.

"Okay." I agreed as I started to try and relax a bit.

"That's it, relax, you'll feel a bit better." he coaxed.

I finally got to a point where I was pretty much back to normal, with only a few tears streaking down my face.

"Lydia, you need to listen to me. Carrie isn't going to do anything, she seems over Damon, you have nothing to worry about." he reassured, but those earlier thoughts were still nagging in the back of my mind.

"But, Stefan what if she's not over him? What if she tries to take him back! What if-" he cut me off.

"Damon won't take her back. You've done to much for him to ever let you go. He loves you too much and you've helped him so much. You really don't have any idea how much he loves you." Stefan said.

"Really" I asked incredulously.

He nodded.

"You have nothing to worry about, Lyd. Now let's get back out there and finish the day, yeah?" he encouraged, helping me stand up.

"Yeah, I guess." I smiled a bit.

"That's my girl." he put his arm around my shoulders as we walked out of the girls bathroom, not really caring about the strange looks we were getting from other people being that we just walked out of the GIRLS bathroom together...

-------------------------------------Time Skip-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The day was finally over, and I just barely survived. Damon was right, I should have just stayed home today.

Stefan drove me back to his and Damon's. When we got there I practically bolted to the door and ran in, dashing up the stairs and into Damon's room, but to my surprise, he wasn't there. I felt a pit growing in my stomach, worried something had happened to him, ad I nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard a voice behind me.

"Looking for me, Sweetheart?" Damon asked.

I whipped around to face him and pretty much jumped into his arms.

"I missed you so much today." I whispered into his shoulder.

"I told you that ya would." he replied, kissing me.

"Yeah, guess you did." I agreed sheepishly.

"Anything new today? How was the new girl?" he asked.

I felt like my stomach just did 50 Olympic level backflips and my heart jumped into my throat. I had to tell him, I knew it was the right thing, I just had to.

"Uh, yeah, about her-" I started, but a new voice cut me off.

"The new girl is your ex, Carrie Anderson" it was Stefan.

"What?" Damon asked quietly, looking to me for confirmation.

"It's true." I admitted weakly.

"Stefan get out, close the door and get out. Lydia, stay here." Damon commanded harshly.

I knew this tone very well, and I knew what as to come once Stefan left. Poor Damon, and I was the only one who would ever help him. I knew he was going to cry, and we were both going to get drunk and drown out his sorrows together, and that we would both crash on his bed and fall asleep, at least that's what I expect to happen, cause that's usually how it goes.
