24. Chapter 24

Harry came to pick me up for school the day after. I was stunned when I found him at my doorstep. 'What are you doing here?' I said, fully aware of the fact that I hadn't touched my hair yet that morning. 'I'm a bit early, sorry.' He said. I heard he was smiling, which put a smile on my face. Having to face Alice at school had been a reason for me to stay in bed all day and pretend I was sick, but Kat didn't believe me. And since I didn't tell her about what happened, she didn't let me stay home. And now Harry was standing in my hall, early int he morning, to pick me up for school. Going to my house first before going to school was a diversion.
'It's warm outside. I don't mind.' Harry said after I confronted him with this fact. He had no idea how much it meant to me that he was still here. I honestly felt like I could cry, but I realised I would look like even more of a mess, if I did so.
My dad stepped out of the living room, into the hall. Around this time he would usually leave for work, or whatever he did on a weekday.
'Sir.' Harry greeted my dad formally. I smiled at my feet.
'You're early, Harry.' My dad stated. There was an awkward silence, before I remembered that I still needed to do my hair. 'Right, we're going upstairs.' I said, taking Harry's hand. 'Don't be late for school.' My dad called after us.
'Alright, you stay here.' I said sitting him down on my bed. 'While I'll get ready.'
'And what do I do in the meantime?' He asked playfully. 'Read a book.' I pointed to the pile of books on my desk.
'Why do you have so many books?' His confusion made me giggle.
'Kat used to read them to me. But she hasn't done it for a while.' I explain.
'Maybe I can do it, while you're getting ready.' Harry suggested while I was brushing my hair. I stopped for a moment, the brush hanging mid-air. 'Yeah, that'd be nice.' I smile.

What happened the day before in the canteen, hadn't gone unnoticed and the rumours about the relationship between Thomas and Ben sure did reach our ears now. I felt very unhappy hearing about it and I couldn't imagine what it must be like to be outed this way. But Ben shouldn't have kept it from his friends. I caught myself hoping that Ben was mad at Thomas, because I believed that he deserved someone who would not be ashamed of being in a relationship with him. Because that's why he lied and asked me to lie too.
Both Harry and I felt kind of out of place, walking into the canteen that day. Could we just sit with the others and pretend nothing happened? Probably not. In fact, I didn't even believe that they were sitting together. It was too confusing to be handled like that.
'Just give everyone some time, Isabella.' Harry said when we decided to go outside for lunch. 'It'll be fine, eventually.'
I agreed with him, but hated that the group of people I had grown to love was broken. It didn't feel right.
'So I guess it's just the two of us now.' Harry sighed.
'I want to apologise before hand.' I chuckled. Harry laughed. I loved his laugh.
'Harry what do you look like?' I ask. Harry remained silent while I was sighing internally at how weird that must have sounded. But I genuinely wondered.
'Well...I've got green eyes and brown hair. Curls, I've got curls. I'm taller than you..' I listened while he described himself and tried to picture it in my mind. Ofcourse I had done that before, but it was always a bit vague. 'Oh I do have dimples.' He added. I added the dimples to my picture and smiled. He looked perfect to me even though I would never know if my picture was even close to reality. 'So yeah, I guess that's about it.'
'Why though?'
'I just wondered.' I shrugged.

Someone came walking up to us. 'You still have my book.' Alice spoke to Harry. I sat up, my eyes widening. 'Oh right.' I heard Harry go through his bag and take out a book that was apparently Alice's. She didn't acknowledge me and I didn't know what to say. 'Thanks.' After Harry had handed over the book she left again her footsteps firm and confident. She didn't need me, not as much as I needed her. I sighed and leaned against the wall.
'She didn't even say anything.' I whispered. I felt Harry's hand on my knee. 'Don't worry about it. She needs some time.'
'As long as you're with me, she'll probably treat you differently as well.' I responded feeling guilty. I didn't want to stand between them.
'I don't mind. I like being with you.' Harry surprised me. I was quite speechless so I just smiled, thanking him quitely.
