Torn From Life

Torn From Life is a short story I wrote in my English class. This story takes you on a tear-jerking adventure full of twists and turns. Note to self, a box of tissues might come in handy when reading.

1. A New Beginning

There she is, lying in my arms. I don’t think I’ve seen anything so perfect. The doctors take her out of my arms so I can rest. I’m a mother now. I have to look after a child and I have to do it all on my own.

It wasn’t long after I found out I was pregnant that I left him. He hit me and said that it was my plan all along. I couldn’t do it. I couldn’t live like that for the rest of my life, so I left. In the middle of the night, I packed my things and left. I didn’t have anywhere to go, so I walked the streets hoping that someone would take me into their home and wake me feel loved again. Nobody came, and there I was alone and shivering.

I couldn’t walk anymore, my body was aching and I hadn’t had anything to eat, so I tried my luck and knocked on the door of the nearest house. An older woman answered the door, took one look at me and pulled me into a hug, inviting me into her home. She told me her name was Sandy and introduced me to her husband Phil, and her daughter Steph. I told her my story and she hugged me again, telling me that I could stay for as long as I wanted. I was so grateful, but I couldn’t work out why she was being so nice to me. She’d never met me before and she was letting me live in her home. I figure that it’s people like this that make the miracles of life happen. After a few weeks  I was settled in and starting a new life for myself. Sandy, Phil and Steph became my family. They were all I had.

The weeks passed by and I went for ultrasound after ultrasound. My baby bump was growing bigger with every passing week. Sandy was there to support me through it all. She became the mother figure in my life and I couldn’t be happier. As the date got closer we started painting the baby’s room and dressing it with cute ornaments. The pink and white set of drawers was filling up with clothes and the cot was placed. There were only a few weeks until I was due and I fell when I was decorating her room. I called out for Sandy and she came rushing in. She helped me up then drove me straight to the doctors. They did scans and tests and then eventually said that she would be fine.

There was one week left and I felt a large pain in my stomach. I was having the baby. Sandy came with me to the hospital, and here I am now. I’ve just given birth to my daughter, Clara.  She was the most beautiful thing in the world. The day had arrived when I can go home and I had my bags packed and ready.
