10. Chapter Nine

                                            Ana's Point of View

I hadn't noticed I was crying till I finished the letter. Jack was looking at me, a question in his eyes. I just handed him the letter. Now some of you are probably thinking 'Oh! She must be so angry at Kristina', but ya'll couldn't be farther from the truth. On the contrary, I felt nothing but gratitude and love towards her and Mark both. I still didn't know what to make of my birth parents. Should I be mad at them for abandoning me? Should I love them because they only did it for me? I couldn't sort it out. So I looked at what else was in the box. There was a cover of satin over everything (the letter was on top of that) And a old perfume wafted though the air around me. I slowly pealed off the satin, wondering what I might find. I gasped. There were so many different thing inside. I picked up a bundle of postcards, about fifty, from all around the world, all of them signed either Izabella or Nikolay. There were old newspapers in every language. Miscellaneous books, travel brochures, maps. A dried flower bouquet. And a photo of my parents and me. I looked at that for a while, then tucked in my pocket. At the bottom of the box, I found a smaller box that said 'In Case Of Emergency'. I opened that and found empty passports, a address book, and a key. I flipped through the address book and found things like, 'Joe Knicky- forger' 'Sally Clark- makeover' 'Tubby-transportation'. I was puzzled for a minute and then I realized. This is everything one would need to make a new identity. I put the book down and picked up the key, "What do you think this goes to?" "Let me see?" I gave it to Jack. "It looks like a deposit box."
