Love and War

Bonnie can't help but think life would be so much easier if she didn't have to make choices. If she didn't have to choose between family or a future. If she didn't have to choose between Eli or Alfie. If she didn't have to choose between success or loyalty. If she didn't have to choose between one kind of love of the other.

Bonnie's point of view

A slight, continuous tapping noise slowly breaks through my sleep until I'm awake. I take a second to wake up to make sure it's really there and it is. I frown and look straight to the balcony doors. I'm actually really surprised to see Eli there, tapping on the glass. I get up quickly, pulling on my dressing gown and opening the door.

"Shhh." I hush him, shutting the door behind me. "My cousin is sleeping in my bedroom. What are you doing here?"

"I had to see you." he smiles, wrapping his arms around my waist.

I smile. "One minute."

I quickly step inside, shutting the curtains and then closing the door again, going back over to Eli. It's nice to see him. His hair is a mess and it looks like he quickly threw his clothes on but something about that is endearing. I like that he's seeing me without any makeup and without a big dress on. It makes me feel like we're more on the same age. He pulls me back to him, kissing my cheek.

"I'm sorry to wake you." he says.

"That's okay." I smile. "What made you want to come here?"

He shrugs. "I guess the thought of you going to see that man made me nervous. I don't want you to forget about me."

I laugh. "I wouldn't forget about you. And I didn't see Stephen."

He raises an eyebrow. "You didn't?"

I shake my head. "I'm going tomorrow. He had business to attend to."

Eli laughs out loud. "He would wouldn't he?"

I chuckle. "They are all the same, you know?"

"I know."

I look down at the floor, not wanting him to see how upset it actually makes me. "It's always about money."

"Hey." he says, gently, tilting my chin up so I look at him. "It's not about money with me."

I smile up at him. "I know."

He leans in slowly, looking me in the eye as if to ask if it's okay to kiss me. It's weird that earlier today I didn't feel like it was okay, but somehow, now that we're here on my balcony alone, it feels like we're in our own world. It feels like it is okay.

He keeps leaning in. My heart beats faster and faster. Our lips touch and my heart stops all together. I expect Eli to be the kind of person to just kiss me for as long as possible but even though I want this to last forever, there's always the right time to end a kiss and he pulls away at just the right time, resting his forehead on mine.

"Goodnight, Bonnie." he smiles.

"Don't go." I whisper.

He chuckles. "What? We're supposed to sit out on the balcony all night?"

I nod, laughing. "Yes."

And we do. It gets really cold but I don't care and if Eli does, he doesn't show it.
