25. Jason

I never thought any of this would happen. I had absolutely no idea my boyfriend, the hot guy from the coffee shop, would be able to read minds. I had no idea Maddy's boyfriend liked me. I had no idea that one man's fist could have knocked me out for so long.

When my vision returned and I gained consciousness, I sat up. The forest was dark, dainty lit by a crackling fire. I could hear murmuring. Wooziness settled in my mind as I stood up - it felt as though I was hungover. Not that I knew what that felt like. Well...

'You're awake.'

The words dripped off him tongue like cold ice. It sent shivers crawling over my skin.

I started to walk away, but probably should have known better. Cloak-man stopped me within milliseconds. He held me still with the palm of his hand.

'Let me go,' I said firmly.

He laughed.

'You have some information that we need. If you don't mind me asking, Eden,' he said slowly. Raising his hood, he revealed a bare face, the only features being his dry white lips. For a man without eyes, he was amazing at tracking my movements. Maybe walking lighter would have stopped him.

'Answer me this.'

Grabbing my neck with his hands, he asked, 'where is Jason.'

When I didn't reply, he tightened his grip. 'Where's Jason? The more you fight me, the more I squeeze. I could burst your neck faster than you could blink.'

I started to squirm and he kept to his words. Before I knew it, I was choking. I could utter a single sound. Oh God, it hurt. My lungs, my heart, my neck...

When he released me I fell to the floor, gasping for air. My chest was on fire. My eyes were watering.

'Next, we'll play a harder game.'

The guy raised his hood. 'But this one requires a little bit of sunlight. Sleep tight, Eden. Don't let the monst- I mean bugs, bite.'
