Back at the cabin, we all say on the couch. Daniel had a arm over his eyes like he was sleeping.

"You alright mate?" Erich asked in his Australian accent.

"Yea I'm fine," Dan said as he stood up. "I'm going outside," he said as he struggled with the door then opened it.

We followed him and went to the car to get out the camp chairs that we set around the fire pit. We sat and Erich went to find fire wood. As he was out looking a old man wandered up to us. He wore faded jeans with holes in them and a torn flannel shirt. His white hair stuck up like he hadn't brushed it in awhile. He gave us a toothy grin as he stopped in front of us.

"So your the new group renting the cabin?" he asked in a horse voice.

"Yea," Syd said.

"Well I'm the caretaker around here," the old man said. "And I just want you kids to know not to stay out once it's dark. And lock the doors and windows," he said as he started to walk away.

"Why?" Dan asked as he propped his feet up on the fire pit.

"Cause the creatures will get you," the old man said.

"Well we can handle it," Erich said as he appeared with a arm fill of wood. He pulled his gun out of the back of his pants and showed it to the man.

"You brought your gun?" I asked. Erich nodded.

"And my sword," he said as he pointed to the cabin.

"Well those won't save you," the old man said. "Oh and whatever you do, don't go in the shack in the woods," he said before he left.

"Oops," Erich said sarcastically once the old man left and was out of ear shot. "What do you think that was about?"

"Probably just the care taker making sure that we don't mess things up," Dan said.

"Well it looks like things were already messed up," I said as we laughed.

We started the fire and we all sat around it roasting hotdogs. Occasionally someone would say something but for the most part the only sound was the crackling fire and crickets. The sun had set a long time ago and so far nothing had happened. The old man must've been delusional. It was probably around 1:00 in the morning when we decided to go in to bed.
