Walking The Dead

Cameron has a rough life, even before the apocalypse. Her family is dead and she only has a few important people in her life now and she can't lose any more. She wants to survive and be happy but she knows she can't have both. When romance sparks, and her sister has an accident, Cameron doesn't think she wants to do it anymore. Can she survive everything that happens?

18. Don't want to mess it up

*Carl's POV*

Morning felt like it came super early, considering I fell asleep talking to Cameron, who was currently sleeping. Her head is on my chest, she slept so quietly, and motionless. I don't even remember what we were talking about, I just remember that our conversation never got boring, or awkward, or silent. We just talked. and talked, and talked.

She stirred in her sleep, and looked scared.

"No, no, no!" She awoke and sat up quickly. She looked around still scared, but when she saw me she looked calm, and happy.

"What's wrong?" I ask, and she lays back down on my chest.

"I had a nightmare, it was nothing. It happens all the time, but it's always the same dream," She looks like she wants to cry.

"You can tell me, maybe telling someone will help," I want to help, I don't want her having nightmares every night.

She sits up and prepares to tell the story, "Well, it's just that I see my parents being eaten alive by walkers, and I do nothing about it. I just stand there watching it happen. It's hard to watch but I don't move, or help, or yell, I just stand there like my feet are glued to the ground," she stops and wipes a tear.

"It's okay, I had to shoot my mom in the head, but that's different. Yours was probably harder to deal with," I'll say or do anything to get her to stop crying right now, I hate seeing that.

"Thanks, that means a lot, you know," she leans in, gives me a soft kiss on the lips, and lays back down on my chest," today will be a good day.

We got up, got dressed, and went to eat some breakfast. We we're running low on supplies so someone is going to have to go out on a run either today or tomorrow.

We eat some dry cereal for breakfast and just have a long talk about who is to go out.

"I'll go, I know the town the best," Cameron offers.

"No, you can't go. At least not by yourself. I don't want to loose you too," Aliyah hugs her sister.

"I'll go with her," I say.

Cameron and Aliyah look at me and smile, I'm hoping because Aliyah knows I wont let anything happen to her sister.

"Alright, are you sure you guys are going to be good by yourselves?" My dad asks.

"Yes, we'll be very safe," I confirm with him.

"So when should we leave?" I ask.

"As soon as you pack your bags, but make sure you're back before sunset, ok?"

"We will do our best," Cameron smiles.

We finish eating and pack our bags. We pack light because we need room for the supplies we're picking up. I have my gun, amo, and a hunting knife. Cameron has just a gun and amo. But she packed whatever food we had in case we got hungry.

We went to the door and on the way out I told my dad, "Just in case we're not back by sunset we'll find another house to stay for the night and we'll be back tomorrow morning,"

"Okay, hurry home!" My dad yells as we head out the door.

"Is this your first run?" I ask Cameron.

"Really? I was on the road with my sister and a couple friends for a couple months and you think this is my first run?" She punched my shoulder and laughed.

"It was just a question," I looked at her sarcastically.

We got to the end of the driveway and I already didn't know where to go.

"The town is that way," Cameron pointed to the right and giggled a little bit.

We were finally on our way. This is the first time we're completely alone, I really don't want to mess it up.
