Walking The Dead

Cameron has a rough life, even before the apocalypse. Her family is dead and she only has a few important people in her life now and she can't lose any more. She wants to survive and be happy but she knows she can't have both. When romance sparks, and her sister has an accident, Cameron doesn't think she wants to do it anymore. Can she survive everything that happens?

16. Captain

*Carl's POV*

I woke up that morning with a smile on my face. This time I know that Cameron likes me, and Sean wont mess it up this time.

I just laid on my bed and stared at the ceiling for ten minutes thinking about last night. We talked about everything. Our past, what happened to us up until now, what our main fears and problems were, what we hope doesn't happen to our group, and what we hope does happen. We also talked about little things, played would-you-rather, and instead of truth or dare we just played truth. Getting to know her made me like her whole lot more.

Someone knocked at my door, "It's me," Cameron.

"Come in," I say.

"I hope I didn't wake you up," She came and sat down on my bed.

"Nope, I''ve been up for a while," I say, but my voice is still tired.

"I love your voice in the morning, just to tell you," She smiled.

"Well, I love your hair in the morning," I smirked. She smirked and punched my arm. She told me that my dad was making breakfast and to get ready for the day.

I went to the table and we had cereal, again. But that's all we have right now, so I guess I shouldn't be complaining. We ate, and when we were done my dad took the bowls back to the kitchen and scrubbed them clean. He came back and talked about how we need to walker proof this house like Cameron, Sean, Maliea, and another guy did with the last one.

"We're going to need to dig trenches, maybe even a large moat around the house with all the herds we have around here," He says.

"We don't even know if we have shovels here, we left them all at the other house," Cameron advises.

"We'll have to have a good look around this new house for anything we could possibly dig with," I say, "We'll have to consider the options."

"Ok, take whatever you find and bring it to the back, we'll choose the best digging tools from there," My dad explains.

We get up, all of us get ready for the day, and we head on our way to find digging tools. We all go by ourselves except Aliyah, she goes with Cameron.

We end up finding four metal digging shovels, and a child beach play set which had two child shovels in it. Me, my dad, Cameron, and Sean take the big shovels and started on a trench as groups of two. I wanted to work with Cameron, but that would leave Sean to be with my dad, so I didn't. It was me and my dad, and Cameron and Sean. Aliyah helped with Cameron and Sean's trench, well she thought she was helping.

"So," my dad started, "Cameron?" He knows, and, he cares?

"Um, what about her?" I don't even look up from my digging.

"Don't play dumb with me, I know you like her," He stops digging and I can feel him looking at me, "Carl."

I stop digging and finally look up, "Yes, Rick?" I half-smirked at him, to show my sarcasm.

"Carl, I know you like her, you can tell me this stuff," He wants me to admit it. Why not.

"Fine dad, yes I like her, and she likes me," I can't help but look over my shoulder at her and smile. When I look back at my dad he's just resting on his shovel, smirking.

"Whatever, let's get digging, I want to finish this trench," I looked down and began digging again.

"Aye aye, captain," My dad said, smiling.
