15. Best Sleep Ever

*Cameron's POV*

The next morning was really quiet, everyone ate breakfast in silence. I never even looked up from my cereal, but I could tell Sean kept looking up at me. Though I have no idea what he was thinking, I knew it was about what happened yesterday.

It was around the middle of the day when I heard the gunshot.

It sounded close, but I have no idea why. There was trenches dug out all over this place, still, I ran outside with my gun, and knife with me. I don't see anything, which is good, but I don't see anyone either. I ran deeper into the forest looking for a sign of a reason to shoot. I don't see anything.

Another gunshot sounded and it was definitely closer than the last one. I ran to where I thought the sound was coming from. I gradually kept running deeper and deeper into the forest, I know I shouldn't care this much, but I felt like to needed to figure this out. I stopped for a second and looked around. I felt like I should just give up and go back. I turned around but heard something drop behind me. I turn back around and see about eight full grown men coming closer. I turned back around and started to run away.

"Help!" I shouted almost at the top of my lungs. But I remembered I didn't want them to raid our house and possibly kill them.

I started sprinting my fastest back to the house. I finally got back and I thought I lost them. I was out of breath I was wheezing.

"Get," I took a big breath, "your stuff," I can barely breath, "we need to leave!" I ran to my room and packed what was necessary for survival. My guns, knifes, amo, some clothes, food, and I ran back to the living room where everyone had their stuff.

"Run!" I yelled, through the back window I saw people and walkers who had been attracted to the gunshots.

We all piled out of the front door and booked it down the road, shooting stray walkers one by one as we go along.

I don't know where or when we will stop. We might have to go all day if we don't loose those men.

We've been running for a while and come to a twisty part in the road and look for a house to stay in. I point to a long driveway that goes up to a really nice house, that looks safe enough to stay in. We all run up the drive way and come up to the house. I hid with Aliyah and holding Judith while Carl, Rick, and Sean checked the house

"What's going on?" Aliyah whispers with a confused look on her face.

"There was some bad men trying to hurt us," I explained.

"Why would they do that?" She was so nice, she never understood why anyone would hurt anything.

"Well, some people aren't as understanding and nice and awesome as us," I whispered and flipped my hair sarcastically.

At that time Carl, Rick, and Sean come out and signaled for us to come inside. We look around us to make sure the men who were chasing us weren't still chasing us. We got inside, put our bags down, and each chose a room. After we each had a room we sat down and started talking about a plan to stay safe.

"What now? What if they find us again?" Carl began.

"We're just going to have to keep a sharp eyes out for any signs of danger," Rick sounded too calm right now.

"We can't unpack or bags yet, something could happen. We need to stay alert, a-and focused, and we have to have rooms close to each others. They can't be as far apart as they are, either we all need to move upstairs or all move downstairs. Not on different levels," Carl seemed really tense, he was shaking, he clearly needed to sit and rest for a while.

"It's okay, Carl," I put my hand on Carl's shoulder, I wanted to assure him that I was here and his dad, and nothing was going to happen.

"Okay, I just need to sit down," He gets up, walks over to the couch, and just sits.

"We need a plan. An escape route," I offer, I really don't want this to happen again.

"I agree, if someone approaches the back, we exit out the front, meet where you, Aliyah and Judith were hiding , and then we go along the road until we find another place," he pauses, "If someone approaches the front, we'll go to that little pond there in the back," he points towards it, "and we go along the forest until we find a place that way, sound good?" I'm so glad Rick is here, it's like having another dad.

When we are finished talking we disperse and I go sit with Carl.

"Did you hear about the plan?" I ask him.

"Yep, people come front, we go back. People come back, we go front. It's pretty straight forward," I can tell he has calmed down by his voice.

"Ok, good. So, how are you feeling?" I move closer him.

"A bit better, ya know, right now," He smiled.

I decided to be spontaneous so I leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. Thankfully, he smiled and blushed.

"How about now?" I smiled.

"A lot better now," He blushed and smiled even more.

We talked and talked until the nightfall came. Tonight I was going to have the best sleep of my life.
