13. Epilogue

~"There is never a time or place for true love. It happens accidently, in a heartbeat, in a single throbbing moment."~

I awoke to the sound of birds chirping. A slit of light ran across the bed. It was official, I had failed. Hurray!

I dragged myself out of bed and started on my morning routine. After freshening up in the bathroom I tugged on one of my pencil skirts and blouses. My hand fell to my neck where the stone once sat. I let a few tears slip out before applying my makeup.

I definitely did not feel like going to work. I was a magazine editor and part time photographer. I grabbed a chocolate chip muffin and a thermos of coffee and practically ran out the door. I was running late.

As I approached the building I thanked the doorman and waved at the receptionist, Linda. "I hear Dave is going to give you a special assignment today, I hope your camera is ready!"

"Really now, and you know I always have it ready!" I said as I steeped into the elevator. I pressed the 11 button and watched as the floors increased. When the doors opened I made my way to my office. Dave was there waiting for me.

"Right on time!" He said as I took my seat behind the desk.

"I know, I try. I heard that I was getting a special assignment? I rarely ever take photos for the magazine."

"Yes, I thought it was time to showcase your talent. There's an article about a new store, Extreme Wheels, that sells bikes and such. They're already a hit and I want you to take some pictures of it for me. What do you say?"

"I'm not going to turn that down! Of course I'll do it!" I said picking up my camera.

"I'll leave you to it then. Thanks Cassandra." Dave said as he left the office.

Maybe today wouldn't be so bad.

I drove over to Extreme Wheels and took some shots of the front of the building. I pushed through the double doors and found myself surrounded by bikes, scooters, rollerblades and skateboards.

"Hello there, how may I help you?"

I looked over at a women who was setting up a display of helmets.

"I'm here to take photos for an article in Fab Mag Weekly." I said holding up my camera.

"I'll go get the owner." She said scurrying away.

I wondered over to one of the skateboards, it was a fluorescent pink.

"Did that one catch your eye?"

I quickly turned startled. There stood a man with a blonde hair sticking out of his baseball cap. He seemed familiar...OH MY GOD...Miles?

"Um...yeah."

"Your here for the magazine that interviewed me yesterday right?" He asked.

"Yes I am, could I get you to pose in front of these skateboards?" I said trying to be professional. It was difficult though, it was Miles!

"Yeah." He said as he stood in front of the skateboard display.

After a few pictures I found myself leaving the store.

"Thanks for the photo session." I said as I stared into his eyes.

"I should be thanking you, your giving my publicity." He said.

We were silent for a moment and something flickered in his eyes. "Have we met before?" He blurted out.

"Yeah, a long time ago." I said with a smile.

"Cassandra, right?" He said with realization.

"Yeah, I see your still close with skateboards." I said pointing to the display.

"Yup, but I gave up riding them. It's for the best though, no more trips to the hospital." He said with a chuckle then as an afterthought said, "Do you want to grab a coffee or something after work?"

I smiled, "I'd love that."

It was time for me to move on, to stop dwelling on the past. What happened, happened for a reason and this was a sign that everything would be okay. Maybe Miles will be the one.

I spotted someone a few aisles down, it was Kayla, she smiled and winked at me. Before I could process that she was there she disappeared.

I'm glad something good came from that redo.
