2. Chapter 2

I grabbed the cloth and bucket from

The back room and brought it out front. I scanned the room for the boy, he had left. I sighed with relief and walked to the nearest table then began to wipe it off with the cloth.

"Kate what time is your shift over today" I jumped and swung around to see Ashley, my co worker standing there with wide eyes.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." She looked at me worriedly.

"No no, it's fine. I'm just a bit worked up that's all. My shift ends at 11:30, why?" She had a huge smile on her face. "What?" I asked.

"Well... I was hoping maybe we could have a girls night tonight, I mean I know we would have to work in the morning but this is the only free night I have! I'm going to Florida with Kaleb on Wednesday and tomorrow night I have to finish packing then I won't see you for 3 weeks!"

"I don't know Ashley, I'm really tired I was going to try and get some extra sleep tonight so I wouldn't come to work tomorrow looking like a zombie."

"Oh come on Kate please!" She begged.

"Okay, fine." I sighed, letting her win. I was starting to get a headache and I wasn't in the mood to argue.

"Yay!" She cheered. "I'll see you later then!" She left the shop and drove back to her house. I looked over at the clock, 2:30 PM. This was going to be a LONG day. With still 10 hours of working left I figured I'd better make the best of it and talk to some costumers while cleaning tables. That was my favourite part of the job after all.

"Hi Freya." I smiled. Freya was one of our regular costumers, she just lives a few doors down and she's one of my favourite people to talk to here. She's really sweet and nice and she would never pass up the opportunity to start a conversation with someone, not matter what kind if mood she happened to be in that day.

"Hey Kate! I haven't seen you in a while! Had the weekend off?"

"Yeah, I usually do. There's the odd time where I get called in but only if a co-worker is sick. I like taking weekends off, that's the time that works best for me." I smiled, removing a dirty plate from her table.

"Yeah, if I was working if probably take the weekends off too, you need a break sometimes, hey."

"Exactly." I gave her a smile and moved to the next table, cleaning that one also. This process repeated it's self over and over again until all table were clean and all costumers were happy. I sat down on the stool behind the counter, exhausted. I think of all days I've worked here this or has been the longest. I looked over at the clock, 10:30 PM. Not bad, only an hour left to go. I smiled to myself.

"Kate, you've worked hard today and we don't seem to be too busy so why don't you go home and take the rest of the night off." Judy smiled, gently pushing me out the door.

"Are you serious?"

"Yes, you deserve a break, you look like a mess, no offence." She giggled and closed the doors. I looked at my reflection in the window and almost jumped. She was right, my hair was tangled and I had dirt on my face. How did I manage to do this? I sighed and made my way over to my car, looks like I'm getting a shower as soon as I get home. I open the door to my car and just as I'm about to step in I realize that something is wrong with the wheels, someone had slashed all four wheels on my car. Seriously? I sighed heavily and began to walk down the street. At this point I didn't really care if I got to Ashley's in time or not, I've had a long day and all I want to do now is

To my advantage the streets are quiet, not many people are out this time of night on a Monday. As I pass the park to the old school I used to go to I get the feeling that someone is following me. I turn around, nobody is there. I shrug it off and continue to walk along the cobblestone path that lead to end of the road where my house is. I heard something rustling in the bushes. I turn around again, nothing. I came to the conclusion that I was completely being paranoid in result of my experiences with that boy from before and reading those newspaper articles. I finally reach my driveway, the safe feeling I get while walking up to my front door is unexplainable.

I've always loved being home, if I was ever on vacation I used to always want to come home a few days after I got there. There's no place better than home for me, you can't beat it. I take my key out of my pocket and place it in the key hole. I heard another noise, this time coming from Bert's hedge trees. I figured it was just his dog and continued to twist my key until I heard the 'click' then I turned the door nob handle, I was about to step inside when I was dragged out onto the steps leading up to my door. A large hand was placed over my mouth as I attempted to scream. Tears started rushing down my face.

"Hello Kate." A familiar voice spoke.
