3. Everything has changed

By around August things had started to change; she didn't have the same interest towards me. I couldn't understand why, I couldn't think of anything that could have made her so disinterested in me within a matter of days. I tried to let it go and think of it as nothing but I refused to believe that nothing had happened, I must have done something wrong, but what? I needed to know what had happened, if I had upset her, I needed to put it right. I told her we needed to talk. We arranged to meet in our favourite cafe round the corner from my house. I sat down at our usual table and waited for her to arrive, we had arranged to meet at 4.30. It was 4.35. 4.40. 4.50. 5.00. 5.15. I began to think she wasn't going to come but I gave it 10 more minutes just to make sure, still no sign. I picked up my bag and started to leave but just as I was about to go out of the door, she came in. She looked amazing. "Sorry I'm late, I-" she began to say, I didn't want to hear her excuses, it would only make me feel pity for her and forget why I was mad at her,

"it's fine, it doesn't matter".  We sat down and after a while of struggling to find the right words to say what I felt, they stumbled out, "something's not right, you've been acting really weird lately, and I feel like I've done something wrong, I jus-" she interrupted me before I could continue,  "actually Noah, there is something I've been meaning to tell you. You're not going to like it. I'm not proud of it but you need to know" my heart pounded as a million thoughts spun around my head of what she was going to say.  "You see, I've been... Stefan and I... We..."  Was she saying what I thought she was saying?  "Are you telling me you've been cheating on me? With my best friend?" She looked ashamed and I felt I had been stabbed a thousand times "Noah, I'm so sorry!"  "Save it", I grabbed my bag and stormed out of the cafe, slamming the door behind me. The rain was slamming down on the ground and my face, ruining my neatly groomed hair, but that was the last thing on my mind. "Noah, Noah wait!" I could hear her voice calling behind me but I chose to ignore it. She was running as fast as she could to catch up and when she finally did on the bridge over the motorway, she tried all she could to make it right with her words. Her words meant nothing as I couldn't accept what she had done. "Noah, please! I love you not him!" "Stop lying to me! Stop lying to yourself! If you loved me you wouldn't have done it!" "Please, I'm sorry! I mean it's not like you don't check out other girls, I just turn a blind eye. Can't we just-" something inside me just sparked and I flipped out! I'd never felt so angry in my life! I grabbed her by the throat and pushed her against the bridge railing, "How dare you turn this around on me! You're the one that-" I stopped myself as I didn't want to do or say something stupid. "Can't we just talk about it? Sort it out and go back to normal?" She tried to talk things out but it wasn't changing anything in my mind. "You don't get to choose what happens next! That's not your decision to make!" I pushed her, what I thought was lightly, but it was in that moment it happened. The rain made the bridge really slippery and she lost her footing and fell backwards over the railings, head first.
