Redwood's Asylum for the Insane

Blink once, your dead. Blink twice, run.

9. Walkie Talkie

Kara fumbled with her walkie talkie as she hurried to answer. "Hello?" Kara spoke into the walkie talkie.

"Kara? Oh my god Kara I'm so scared!" Lilly's voice came through.

"I know Lilly, just calm down. I have Mark with me in section C. Where are you?" Kara asked.

"In the courtyard." Lilly said.

Kara inwardly groaned. The courtyard was between section P and Q. It would take almost ten to fifteen minutes to get there. "Ok Lilly just wait and stay out of sight." Kara said.

"Alright." Lilly agreed and the connection went dead.

"I hope she's alright." Mark murmured.

Kara opened her mouth, but the sound of static interrupted her. A voice cut through. "Guys? Has anyone found a way into a safe room yet?" A masculine voice asked.

Kara looked at her walkie talkie. There was a group chat, for all the guards to hear, and the private chats, which Lilly and Kara had previously been using. "No, apparently were not supposed to go into one. We're supposed to stay out here and subdue any loose patients and or find a way to communicate with Prisoner Z." Another voice answered.

Choruses of horrified and angered voices cut through, breaking up the connection and sounding like a creature from nightmares. When everyone calmed down, another feminine voice spoke up, "Um guys, I just found the cook."

"Uh oh, run before she uses you to help her fix her ruined dishes." Someone joked.

There were a few snickers, even Kara and Mark smirked. "No guys, she's... Cook is dead. Looks like she was hit in the back with a big cleaver or something. Cook was butchered."

Dead silence fell. "Prisoner Z..." Mark swallowed nervously.

"There's a blood trail leading toward section G, watch out." The girl informed.

"Oh, and one other thing," Kara remembered. "I came across an empty cell, a patient escaped. So be on the look out."

The guards said their good byes and thank you's and disconnected. Kara sighed and glanced at Mark. "How long are we going to be here?" Mark asked.

"Until someone arrives and captures Prisoner Z." Kara whispered.

Mark stared down at her, a terrified and tear filled look in his eyes. Kara was sure her eyes looked the same. They embraced and Kara said, "We'll get through this, ok?"

Mark nodded against her. Lord, Kara hoped she was right.
