Problems

"Head in the clouds, got no weight on my shoulders"
~
When I was little, I thought life was perfect. But now, everything is a lie. I face things every single day ever since my mom died. About 80 percent of them involve my dad. He wants me to be something that I'm not, and it's stupid. I can't change myself, but in order to appease to him, I made this compromise with him. This compromise was worse than what he wants me to actually be. I've got 99 problems. But you, Ashton, won't be one.

4. Encountering Irwin

If the dress code was enforced at a stricter level here at school, every single one of the girls except me and my best friend Marlee Olsen would get a dress cut.

"So have you finished 'Little Woman' yet?" She asked while we were at my locker.

"I am almost done." I reply. "I'm planning on finishing it during study hall or my release period."

That was when Luke comes over to my locker. "Hey, Connor Watson. You got the book?"

I reach into my bag and pull out "The Luminaries" by Eleanor Catton, which was the book that Luke was checking out before he ran away for no reason from this Irwin guy. "Here ya go." I hand him the book.

He reaches for the book and shoves it into his bag. "Thanks. So what was it about me and oh, hey Marlee." He notices Marlee standing next to me.

Marlee waves. "Hey, Luke." She replies.

Marlee is a cheerleader, but she's the type of cheerleader that isn't slutty at all. If Amy Grace wasn't the head cheerleader, Marlee would have that position hands down. Even though she has the luscious blonde hair and brown eyes, she's not the stereotypical dumbass slutty cheerleader who throws herself onto guys. Fact: she's never even had a boyfriend and I don't know why.

"So you now know why I ran away yesterday?" Luke asked. I nodded.

"A little." I answer.

"Wait, why did you run away? I thought your life was fabulous." Marlee pitches in.

Luke leans in and whispers into her ear. "Oh." Marlee realizes.

"Yeah." Luke states. "So I got to run. I'll see you in Calc," he points to Marlee, "and I'll see you in Chem." He points to me and runs off.

"So he saw Ashton Irwin at the library, huh?" Marlee asks.

I shrug. "Well, I've never met this Ashton Irwin before. Hell, I don't even know what the fuck he looks like!" I grab my AP Calc book and my AP Lit book. I look up at Marlee and her face is flushed.

"Well, I gotta talk to Alena about...Physics. So I'll see ya in Lit." And she takes off.

Just like when Luke ran out of my sight yesterday.

"Why the hell does everyone keep running away from me?" I thought.

"Hey, I remember you." I hear a voice behind me. The same voice of the boy who ran into me.

I turn around and it's him.

He had ripped jeans on, a black t-shirt, white converse, and a blue bandana.

"Same here." I reply back. "You were the guy who wouldn't leave me alone in the library." I was about to walk away, but someone grabbed my shoulder and pulled me back. It was the library guy.

"Can we at least introduce ourselves?"

I sigh and roll my eyes. "I'm Connor Watson." I introduce. "Can I leave? I got AP Calc that's starting soon."

He doesn't budge. "At least allow me to introduce myself." He exclaims. I stay silent, allowing him to speak. "I'm..."

"ASH!" I hear some squeaky voice scream. And within seconds, Regina George-I mean Amy Grace-runs over and throws herself onto the guy.

"Hey, babe." He says going into some full make-out session right in front of me.

I wait for a minute.

Or two.

Or three.

Or seven.

I finally began to grow impatient and just tapped his shoulders. He stopped eating Amy's face and looked at me. "Oh, shit, I forgot you were there."

I shrug my shoulders. "Everyone seems to." I state.

"I don't think I've seen you before." Amy says. "Who are you?" She asks.

"Leaving." I sarcastically remark walking away, stopping in my tracks, and back pedaling back towards the couple. "And it's Connor Watson. I'm friends with the cheerleader, Marlee Olsen."

She shows a questioning look. "Who?"

"Exactly." I answer walking away for real this time. Marlee may be a cheerleader, but no one knows she's there.

And then it hit me.

Last night's FaceBook conversation when Luke stole Calum's phone.

"Ashton Irwin. Total badass of the school. He's always skipping classes and breaking equipments and stuff. You would think he would be sleeping around with girls, but he has a girlfriend Amy Grace."

Oh, fuck.

The guy who ran into me yesterday.

The guy who Luke must've ran away from.

I have encountered the Placer High School badass.

Ashton Irwin.
