"Head in the clouds, got no weight on my shoulders"
When I was little, I thought life was perfect. But now, everything is a lie. I face things every single day ever since my mom died. About 80 percent of them involve my dad. He wants me to be something that I'm not, and it's stupid. I can't change myself, but in order to appease to him, I made this compromise with him. This compromise was worse than what he wants me to actually be. I've got 99 problems. But you, Ashton, won't be one.

23. A "wonderful" fact to reflect upon

I sit at a table at Subway eating my usual five dollar footlong sandwich waiting for Ashton. I also had my bag on the table with the book I chose for him because hey, why not?

I hear the door open because the bell to signify someone walked in rang, and I didn't expect it would be him until he sat down across from me.

"Hello, Con." He says and I look up in the mist of eating my sandwich.

Once I finished my bite, I reply. "Hey Ashton."

He smiles some. "You can call me Ash."

"But you call me Con when I didn't say if you can." I rebuttal.

"Too late for that." He chuckles. "Okay so what's the book? I gotta go quick because I'm on a lunch break."

My eyes widen. "Wait, you have a job?" I ask him before taking a sip of my drink. He nods.

"I work at Moe's." he says showing off his work shirt. Apparently there are only two Moe's, the Mexican chipotle-like restaurant, in California. We are lucky to have one here in Auburn. "I started working last week actually."

"Wait, so you just started a new job?" I ask finally finishing my sandwich. He nods.

"Well it's my first job actually." Oh wow. "But I'm liking it there actually. You should stop by sometimes and order something. I could sure use company."

I smile a little and look down. I knew he was talking about me as the company. Wait, I feel my cheeks heating up. Am I blushing? "So, the next book." I say snapping back to attention and grabbing my bag and pulling out the next book. "I asked for help from my English teacher, and he said this." I slide the book over to him.

"A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens." He reads the title. "Isn't that-"

"The same guy who wrote A Christmas Carol. Yes." I finish his sentence with a cheeky grin.

"Wait, who's your English teacher? Because this book is like...above my reading level." He asks.

"I take a college English course." I tell him which earned a groan and a slam of the head on the table. "Aren't you on a lunch break?" I remind him.

He picks his head up. "Yeah. Excuse me while I order." He says getting up and going to order a sandwich. He then returns with his sandwich grabbing the book. "On a scale of one to ten, how boring will it be?" He asks referring to the book.

I roll my eyes. "Three. I found it boring at first, but remember it was the best of times, it was the worst of times." I say with a smile.

"I'm beginning to regret this." He says straightforward.

"Then why don't you just give up?" I ask standing up.

"Because I want to be your first kiss. And you know what, Watson, I've wanted to kiss you for a while now! I've wanted to ever since we were in the same seventh period Honors World History class freshman year!" There was a raise in his voice.

"Then why don't you just do it now?!"

"Because I signed a contract already! It's binding that when I finish three books and get questions correct, I'll kiss you! I'm doing this because I like you!" He almost yells. We are silent for a while and then he looks at the time. "I got to get back to work." He huffs and walks out of Subway.

Leaving me standing there.

We wouldn't talk for three weeks after that day.

Oh look a filler chapter. So yeah. Finally updated. Yippee!
