Goodbye Means Gone

After being beaten within an inch of her life by her Uncle, Sapphire leaves everything behind. A few years later she has made it into the Canadian wilderness. She survives with the help of her friends Reid, Cole, and Thomas. Sapphire thinks she has escaped until she finds out her aunt has died, leaving her baby cousin at the hands of a monster. She heads back with her friends to try to help her cousin. Will she be able to save her in time? Or will her Uncle kill her first?

5. The Life after Death.

Ruby's adoption went through and now she belongs to me. Sapphire's crazy uncle was sentenced to death for multiple murder charges. I planned Sapphire's funeral. I went back to the cave and found her binder. It was buried with her. I made copies of the pages to give to Ruby.

Reid and Cole stop by every now and again. They both realized they were gay and moved in together. The adopted a child of their own. They miss Sapphire almost as much as I do.

Sometimes I find myself crying for Sapphire to come back. That's when I go to Ruby's school and bring her home. I tell her stories about Sapphire. Then we read some of the stories she wrote. Ruby loves them. She likes making up stories of her own. I bought her a binder just like Sapphire had to write them down in. She uses it all the time. She reminds me so much of Sapphire. Maybe that's why I find comfort in having her around.

I know life goes on after death, but that doesn't mean we have to forget. I would give anything to have Sapphire here and I be the one gone, but I know that I can't change the past, so I choose to remember it. I remember Sapphire at her best, worst, and every thing between, because I love her and I can't live without her. My memories are all I have, and I can't risk losing them. Who would tell Ruby how alike they are then?
