Wonderstruck

Do you ever just see a beautiful stranger? Not just a stranger that looks nice, but a really beautiful stranger who just captures you with the way they look and the way they act and makes you think about them at 2 am. A beautiful stranger that leaves you wonder struck and makes you somehow want to see them again and be with them forever yet at the same time, make you want to stay away from them so they remain this mysterious beautiful person that's in the world that would never hurt you.
I should have gone with the latter.

Ethan's point of view

Rosy and I are walking along the street on the way to Rain's birthday party. Knowing that her dad won't be there has taken a lot of pressure off and I'm actually looking forward to it and she is is too. It's really warm today and she's walking along in the sweetest summery dress with a spring in her step, pulling me along excitedly.

"Slow down there." I laugh, catching up with her yet again.

"I'm so excited." she beams, walking backwards so she can face me. "Like seriously. Rain is eleven, oh my god. And you're going to meet my family, they're all going to love you. It's just so exciting!"

I chuckle. "I'm excited but I'm pretty nervous. What if Rain doesn't like his present from me?"

She stares at me. "You got him a nerf gun. He's gonna love you forever."

"But what about your family? Do you think they're going to like me? Really? Because I'm quite a bit older than you, they might not like that-"

"They'll love you. I really think so. You're the kind of boy they're going to meet and say to me 'You have got yourself a real catch there, eh Rose?' whilst nudging me and then when you turn away they're going to be all 'what a lovely young man!'"

I laugh at the thought. "I don't think they'll think that."

"Oh. They will."

We walk into the back garden and straight away, Rain notices her straight away and jumps into her arms, squealing and laughing like a typical eleven year old boy at his birthday party. She laughs, and he'll never understand how happy and overwhelmed she was in that moment, but I know and it makes me want to cry a little bit. In the best way.

"Hey!" she grins, squeezing him tight before putting him down. "Gonna say hi to Ethan?"

I get a bit worried. I know he's only young but what if he understands that the reason his big sister doesn't see him very much anymore is me? That isn't the case though. He grins, running up to me excitedly before realising he needs to be cooler because he's eleven now and he just nods calmly, holding out his fist. I laugh, fist bumping him. There's so much that I've learned about being a teenage boy that he has yet to learn. That's just a weird thought.

"Hey man." I grin. "Happy birthday."

"Thanks." the little boy inside him returns again with a massive grin. "Uh. I don't mean to be rude, but is that for me?"

He points to the gift I'm holding and I pass it to him. "Well, of course!"

He unwraps it vigorously and I think he has to stop himself screaming with happiness when he sees what's inside.

"Thanks Ethan!" he gasps. "You're so awesome!"

"Hey, Rain." Rosy smiles, crouching next to us. "I haven't got your present here right now because I can't exactly give it to you."

"What is it?!" he asks, excitedly.

"Well, me and Ethan are gonna take you to Alton Towers one weekend. We got you a cool pass so that we don't have to wait in line? Do you want that?"

He nods so fast I think his head my fall off. "Yes! Thank you!"

He runs off to tell his friends and me and Rosy chuckle together. She nudges me, taking my hand.

"I want you to meet some people."

She introduces me to pretty much every family member there. All of them nudge her and tell her what a catch I am or say how handsome I am and I blush every single time. In every case, they all say what a nice boy I am as soon as I turn away.

Rosy's point of view

Later on in the afternoon, I can't find Ethan. I eventually find him chatting with my grandpa about model airplanes and he is genuinely interested and that's when I know I've found the perfect guy. Not because he likes model airplanes because I know he doesn't, but because he can find interest in anything to make someone else happy.

"Hey." I smile. "Sorry to butt in. Nice to see you two getting along, but can I take Ethan away from you please, Grandpa?"

My grandpa chuckles. "Of course. I bet I'm boring the poor lad to death anyway."

"No!" Ethan protests. "No, not at all! I was very interested actually."

My grandpa pats him on the shoulder. "Come back and find me later if you want to know more."

"Will do, thanks sir." he grins.

Ethan walks away to get us both something to drink and my grandpa pulls me aside, smiling at me.

"You've got a real great guy there, Rose." he nods. "Real good guy."

I smile back. "I know."

I go back to find Ethan. "Hey, E, wanna go to my room?"

He raises his eyebrows. "Look, I know what happened yesterday, but at your family barbecue?"

I laugh, pushing him. "Dude, you know I didn't mean that. I just wanna go out of the sun for a while."

"Let's go up then." he takes my hand, kissing my cheek happily.
