Wonderstruck

Do you ever just see a beautiful stranger? Not just a stranger that looks nice, but a really beautiful stranger who just captures you with the way they look and the way they act and makes you think about them at 2 am. A beautiful stranger that leaves you wonder struck and makes you somehow want to see them again and be with them forever yet at the same time, make you want to stay away from them so they remain this mysterious beautiful person that's in the world that would never hurt you.
I should have gone with the latter.

Ethan's point of view

"Wake up." I groan, pushing her for the hundredth time. I let her sleep in for a long time but now it's 12 pm and I'm bored and I want to speak to her. She frowns, rubbing her eyes.

"I'm awake." she mumbles, turning back over to face me. She reaches out for me but misses because I'm sat up. She still hasn't opened her eyes and she's frowning, confused. Her arms eventually find me and she pulls me down next to her, holding me close which I secretly like. "I'm so awake."

"Mhm, you look it." I kiss her forehead. "Let's get up."

"Let's not."

I laugh. "Come on, Rosy, I don't wanna stay in bed anymore, it's-"

She cuts me off, opening her eyes at last as she leans on top of me and kisses me, softly and slowly. I sit up, pulling her onto my lap and kiss her more but she just giggles and kisses my nose instead.

"Let's get up." she says, her forehead against mine.

"Let's not." I murmur, smiling.

We compromise and turn the bed back into a couch and watch horror films. My plan was the typical 'she gets scared and I comfort her' thing but it ends up being the other way around. I always forget how much I hate horror films. She just laughs through it all.

"You are satan if you didn't find that creepy." I say, clutching onto a pillow.

"You're a bit of a wimp if you didn't laugh at that." she shoots back.

"Yeah well, I'm not the one not wearing trousers."

"You're the one who doesn't have any trousers that fit me."

"You're the one who forgot to change out of her dress."

"Yeah, well you're the one who's scared of the horror movie."

"Yeah, well, you're satan."

We both stay deadpan for a moment and then burst out laughing. She chucks a piece of popcorn at me as her laughter dies down and she smiles. But it's the kind of smile where she's only doing it so she doesn't cry.

"When do you want me to leave?" she asks as if she's just asking so she knows, but I know that she's terrified.

"Never." I say.

She pushes me playfully. "Really."

"Rosy, don't get this idea into your head that you're here for a limited amount of time. You're not just some guy who I'm sort of friends with that needs a space to stay. You're you, you're staying here for as long as you want to. I'm not just going to kick you out, I like having you here."

She smiles but her eyes are watering and a frown is creeping up on her. "Thank you." she whispers.

"Hey." I frown, taking her hand. "What's the matter?"

She shrugs, laughing at herself a little even though I'm sure she's not just being silly. "I'm just glad that you care even though my dad doesn't anymore."

I sigh, not knowing how to reply and I pull her in close. She scoots over more, burying her head in my shoulder.
