Divergent's Daughter [completed]

Hey, My name is Dani Eaton. I am an outsider...
That means I don't belong.
What do you do when you are the daughter of the two most famous Divergent? Danielle has a lot to live up to and a lot to hide...
She has the added issues of death and family riding on her shoulders.

12. Twelve

It is my seventeenth birthday. I walk with all my friends to training.  "Oh I can't wait for you to see our surprise!" Bee-tee yells. I laugh and put my arm round Bee-tee's shoulders. "You ain't helping love!" Bee-tee shrugs and laughs. We reach the training room. Sierra ties a rag around my eyes and puts her hands on my shoulders to guide me. I wince as she touches the old knife wound. I hear the big doors creak open and Sierra guides me in. She takes off my blindfold and I gasp.

The room is completely re-decorated. Pictures of me scatter the walls. Happy Birthday banners and bunting hang from the ceiling. Presents are stacked all around. "Everyone wanted to say Happy Birthday!" Bee-tee says.

"Everyone?" I ask thinking of Gemma and Georgia and Britney.

"Well, you know..." Bee-tee laughs. I laugh to. "Presents?" I suggest. We race over to the stack of presents. I take one of the pile. It is from Marla.  I tear off the wrapping. It is a necklace with the Dauntless symbol of flames in a circle on the end. I move onto the next one. It is from a girl called Cat. It's a leather bracelet with my name on. I work my way through the mound of presents, leaving wrapping strewn everywhere. When I finish I say "Is that all?" Everyone laughs.

"No it's not!" I turn and see Harrison coming up to us. I run up to him and wrap my arms around him. "Come to my apartment later kid!" He whispers to me. I smile and let go of him. "Right!" He turns back into my mentor, "Get that wrapping cleared up! We are starting shooting today!"

We each take a gun from a wooden crate. We stand in front of our target. "Now," says Harrison," Guns are dangerous, and I don't want a dead birthday girl!" We all laugh, well all apart from Gemma, who probably would like me dead."You shoot when I say shoot. If anyone is caught being irresponsible, you risk your initiation!" We all lift our guns and click our bullets into place. I feel someone breathing down my neck. I look round and see Clese.

"Not exactly playing hard to get are you?" He whispers, "Harrison isn't all he seems!"

"If you want to get me back, you're not succeeding!"

"Oh am I not though? I know that if you know what I know about him, you don't trust him!"

"Yeah, well I trust him enough to not get stabbed in the arm!"

"Oh! Is that what this is about to you? To me it was something a little more personal that broke us. Trust!"

"Yes. I couldn't trust you enough to have a stable relationship!"

"So you stabbed me?"

"No. That was something else!"

"I love Harrison now so leave me alone!"

"Clese! Get away from her!" Harrison storms up to us. Clese laughs at Harrison.

"Oh the little hero!" Clese sneers.Harrison balls his fist. Clese sees this and laughs. I run over to Harrison and grab his fists and squeeze them tight. He tries to push my hands away but I grip tighter. He struggles against me. He moves sharply and I fall to the floor. He doesn't stop like normal to pick me up, he just storms ahead towards Clese.

"Harrison! Stop!" I yell. He does as I stay and slouches.

"Sorry Dani!" He says. I push myself up and sink into Harrison. He puts his arms around me and I want him to engulf me.

I walk down the corridor with my friends. "Come on Dani!" Sierra shouts dragging me. I pull myself from her. "I promised Harrison I'd see him!" I say running down the corridor to Harrison's apartment. I rap my knuckles on the door. It swings open and Harrison stands there. I run into his arms. He reaches out and shuts the door behind us. We let go.

"You wanted to see me?"

"Yeah. I got a present, I just wanted to say sorry for earlier."

"Don't be. I would have loved you to punch Clese, but I wouldn't have loved you to get a reputation and then we have to split up."

"I'll get the present!" Harrison leaves and the comes back in holding a package. We sit down on the edge of his bed. I take the package from his hands and gently tear the paper off. In my hands lays a picture of Harrison and I when we were very young. I smile at our chubby faces and big eyes.

"Thank you so much!" I say. I rest my head on his shoulder. He takes my head and presses his lips to mine. Once again our arms wrap round the other's body. His shirt slips over his head with the movement of my hands. We fall onto the soft mattress.
