Too Late? - A Michael Clifford Fanfiction

Alison and Michael were best friends since pre-school. When he started the band, they started dating. But the other boys hated the idea of her being around all the time although they were happy for their band mate. On the night of Michael's seventeenth birthday, Alison was only sixteen, she gave the one thing to him she would never be able to get back and give to another human being again... Her virginity. And what did he give her? Heartbreak and a child.

After that night, the pair broke up. Michael needed to concentrate on his band. But what he never realized was the secret Alison was hiding from him. The fact that he had a son.

Was Michael right to break up with her and is he too late to show her he's here to stay for good this time?

13. Party Time

Alison's POV

"There's my birthday boy!" My mother cooed at me as I held Braxton in my arms. He smiled and reached his arms out at my Mum as she happily took him from my grasp. I walked into the living room of my old house when I was growing up to find the place decorated with banners and balloons. I walked out into the garden to see a massive bouncy castle in the middle of the yard and all party games dotted everywhere. There were chairs and tables in the shade thanks to the house. But sitting there were Michael's Mum and the other boy parents and siblings. Mrs Clifford saw me enter the yard through the back door and smiled at me brightly.

"Alison, there you are sweetie!" She said and embraced me tightly in a hug. I hugged her back before pulling away with a smile on my face.

"Hey, Mrs Clifford! What are you doing here?" I questioned.

"It's my grandson's first birthday and I wouldn't have missed this for the world!"

"Well thank you for coming," I smiled warmly.

"Where are the lads, Ally?" Luke's brother, Ben, shouted over at me.

"I don't know. I left home without them." I answered with a slight shrug

"Did something happen?" Mr Hemmings said turning to me while pulling an extra chair over and motioning me over to sit on it.

"Kinda," I said while taking a seat. I sighed before continuing, "Michael kissed me. And all the boys saw. Harry ran off and I followed him," I said rather quietly. "He gave me this long speech about how he loves me and stuff but then the boys came and found us and Harry made me choose between Mikey and him."

"Well, who did you choose?" Jack, Luke's other older brother asked me.

"Neither," I simply stated "How am I supposed to choose between the guy I love, who is the father of my child, and the guy who is one of my best friends, who has helped me with my career? The one who took me and Brax in when we had no where to stay once I left here?"

"You could have always come back here, Alison. You know that sweetie. You're my daughter and Braxy is my grandson, there is always room here for you honey," My mother said walking over to me with Braxton in her arms. Mrs Clifford took him from my Mum and started bouncing him on her knee.

"I know, Mum. But I have Brax now, he's my family and, oh I don't know! I just thought it was easier to try and be independent for once. I mean, you don't need us under your feet," I rambled on.

My Mums face softened and I could see the understanding on her face. "Oh, honey..."

"Jack! Ben!" Luke cheered happily.

I groaned and threw my head back. "That's all I damn well need!" I whispered to myself. Mrs Clifford chuckled from beside me as she got up with Braxton in her arms and went to hug Michael.

"Dada!" Braxton screamed and held his hand out to Michael. Michal high-fived him and ruffled his hair causing little giggles to escape from Braxton's lips.

"Hey little man," Michael smiled at him. Just at that moment, Ashton, Calum, the One Direction boys as well as Freddy, Kate and Drippy all came into the back yard. I hugged Freddy and Drippy and jus glared at Kate. There was no way that I was going talk to her. I haven't spoken to her in just under two years. I mean, she lied and pretended to be seeing my ex-boyfriend! She broke my trust. And our friendship.

"Alison, please don't be mad!" She chuckled with a smile tugging on her lips. I saw Michael look over at her, but he made sure to not make eye contact or even smile at her.

"You should've thought about that before you pretended to be with Michael," I hissed at her.

"He's the one who thought of that ridiculous plan!" She retaliated back.

"But he's the one who actually told me the truth! He never lied to my face! You were supposed to be one of my best friends, and you hurt me! You broke my trust," I yelled back at her harshly.

"But-" She started before I cut her off.

"But nothing, Kate. Just forget about it." I said, pushing past everyone and taking Braxton from Michael's grasp. I walked back into the house, going up to my old room. The bed still in the same place as before when we first moved to London but stripped of all the covers. The curtains colour was fading due to the sunlight and all my old posters still hanging up over the walls. Photos of me and Michael from the time we were dating dotted the walls too and even a few odd photos of me, Ashton, Calum and Luke. I knew they disliked me because Michael would send most of his time with me and not them, but hey, I never made him! I set Braxton down on the floor as I looked around my old room. I smiled to myself as I flopped back down onto the bed. I closed my eyes and heard Braxton giggle a little bit as I smiled at his laughter. His laughter always made me smile, no matter what I was going through or no matter what the time is during the day, he always made me smile. "What you laughing at Brax?" I questioned. I sat up and looked at the floor where I had put him down but he wasn't there. "Brax, honey, where are you?" I urgently looked around on the floor for him. I saw him over by the window, standing for the first time while he hugged one of the huge soft toys perched under the window sill. "Mum! Michael, come up here now! I screamed as loud as I could, "and bring a phone too!" I added. A minute later I head a load of feet running up the stairs and running into my old room.

"What's wrong?" Ashton asked alarmed. I pointed over to the window where Brax was still standing, hugging the toy tightly.

"He's standing by himself!" I gushed. Everyone cheered as Braxton fell to his bum. He looked up at everyone before stumbling to his feet. He was unsteady for a few seconds until he regained his balance. He took a step forward, wobbling a little bit, before taking another step. Mrs Clifford and Michael walked to the front of everyone as Michael's Mum sat beside me. Michael crouched down in front of my feet and held his arms out.

"I'm filming this for Keek," Ashton mumbled with a smile on his face. He whipped his phone out and, as I presume, he loaded the app before nodding to me. I kicked Michael softly so he could continue.

"Come on, Brax, walk to Daddy little man!" He encouraged. Braxton looked at the floor while holding his arms out a little for balance before he took another step, followed by another, then another, then another, and another until Michael could wrap his huge arms around him which caused Braxton to laugh uncontrollably.

"Birthday boy took his first steps!" Ashton shouted before everyone cheered.

I knelt down beside Michael and kissed Braxton's forehead and smiled at Michael as he returned the smile back. "I love you, little man," I smiled and kissed Braxton's head, "just like I love your Daddy." I heard Michael chuckle lightly before he kissed my cheek. Everyone was still cheering and clapping for Braxton before I stood up followed by Michael. "Come on, it's supposed to be a party!" I smiled. Everyone was still laughing and talking as we left the room and made out way down stairs. There was a knock at the door and when I opened it, I saw Georgia, one of my friends from Collage, and our friend Brianna standing right next to her. I smiled warmly at them and stepped aside to let them in. "I'm glad you guys could make it," I said as I lead them into the garden where some of the One Direction boys were messing around like idiots on the huge bouncy castle, bashing each other with huge blow-up hammers that Freddy had bought for today. I noticed that Ashton's brother and sister, Harry and Lauren were messing around on the babies bouncy castle as Michael held Braxton's hands tightly as he bounced up and down, giggles tumbling out of his mouth every so often. Luke held his little cousin, Zoe in his arms as he threw her into the air and caught her. But just as I was about to go and talk to Georgia and Brianna, I noticed they were no longer behind me. Georgia had made her way over to Luke and the both of them were blushing like crazy. They would make the most perfect couple. I looked around to find Brianna and I noticed she had made her way over to Calum. He was trying to act all cool and what-not but he totally failed. You could easily tell he liked her. I smiled as I watched them all talk and for once in my life, I realised how grateful I am. I mean, I have an amazing mother and a gorgeous little boy. A fantastic father for my son. Two best friends as well as amazing friends at collage and not to mention family (the boys family even though they aren't my real family) that are there for you no matter what and always will be. I never noticed these small little things in my life that actually make up huge parts of my every-day life. And you wanna know what? I'm happy with my family. And my family is Michael, Braxton and I.
