17. Doomed

Andromeda's POV

I walked back to my room and flopped onto Ciara's bunk. I knew she would get mad if she saw me, but I was too tired to care. I just lay there for a few minutes and felt beads of sweat form on my forehead, but it wasn't from training. I felt bad for burning Lilli, as it must have been a second degree one, or maybe even a third degree one, which is as bad as it gets. But mostly, I was nervous. The fact that whoever it was (most likely the Empire) had gotten into the facility really freaked me out. That meant that they could be watching us at any moment, if they wanted to.

I got off of Ciara's bunk and went to the bathroom. I splashed my face with cold water until I heard a knock at the door. "Come in!" I yelled. I wiped my face with a towel and went to the door. Auron was standing in the doorway, tense and spooked, a lot like I was. "Come in," I ushered him inside and he sat on the floor, against the wall. "So, did you need anything?" I asked.

"No, I just thought I might say hi," he paused, "and honestly, I'm kind of scared. I feel like at any moment someone's going to smash through the wall and slice my head off." Interesting.

"I kind of get what you're feeling." I slid down the wall and sat next to him. Soon, there was another knock at the door. I got up and opened the door and saw Nix, casually leaning against the doorway. He seemed so relaxed and like he had everything together. Something about him made me feel safe. I welcomed him inside and there was an awkward silence for a few moments.

"So, are you guys okay?" Nix asked.

"I feel jittery, like any sudden noise could be a death trap." Of course, as soon as I said that, I glanced out of the window to see a giant ship. My eyes widened.

"Guys, we should go talk to the others." I said.

"About what?" Nix asked. They followed me anyways all the way to Lilli's room. I knocked and Lilli opened the door with her good arm, revealing Ryder gawking out of the window. I knew there was something going on between them.

Lilli let us inside whilst clutching a bandage over her arm as she guided us over to where Ryder was staring out of the window. I gasped at the sight. A gigantic spaceship had landed on a far away hill, and although it was a ways away, it's humongous size was still clear. "Do you think..." Auron started.

"That it's the Empire's ship? It's almost as big as the Death Star. Maybe it's more mobile than the Death Star was." I said.

"And maybe that's what they used to get here and pull that prank on us." Nix added.

"Not funny guys." Ryder said. Nix walked back towards the door.

"Where are you going?" I asked.

"To investigate." He answered.

"Shouldn't we talk to Luke first?" Lilli questioned.

"Come on, we should go before they leave. If we leave now, maybe we can check it out and still make it back here before anyone notices we're gone. Besides, we  don't have training for the rest of the day." Nix twisted the door handle when I exclaimed,

"I'm coming with you." I gripped my purple light saber which was turned off and secured in my training robes. The rest of the group shared a look and nodded in unison. We all marched out of the room to investigate the giant mother ship and probably die. But, we were young. We didn't really care.

We all followed to the entrance, or exit, of the facility. There were eight guards on duty at the main entrance. It's not like they had taken us hostage, but we weren't exactly allowed to leave the facility. I poked my head around the corner, "Andy!" Nix whispered in a strained voice, and then pulled me back right before I was spotted by a guard.

"How do we get out of here? This place is crawling with guards." Ryder said. There were also pairs of guards in each hallway, almost like they were waiting for someone to try and sneak out. I looked up towards the ceiling and saw the ventilation shaft at the top of the wall.

"Why don't we climb through the vent? I think it connects to the garbage chute which ends outside." I said.

"Isn't that a little old school?" Lilli asked.

"It'll work." Nix said. He flashed me that 'barely-there' smiled where cracked the tiniest smile for about a nano second. I felt my insides melt and my cheeks flush.

"Alright, but you'd think they'd start putting cameras in there." Auron added. I climbed on top of Nix's shoulders and he hoisted me up so my hands could reach the shaft's entrance. I pulled my light saber out of my robe and turned it on, careful not to burn the ceiling. I sliced through the metal with ease and tossed the grated metal downwards, until Auron caught it in his arms. He smiled at me and my heart skipped a beat.

I shook any distractions out of my mind and pulled myself into the shaft. Nix helped Lilli up next and I grabbed onto her good arm, careful not to injure her further. I pulled her inside and then Auron climbed up followed by Ryder with Nix bringing up the rear.

We crawled through the vent for about half an hour as we kept getting lost in the dark tunnel. Eventually, we crawled out of the cramped space and into fresh air...and then right down the garbage chute. I slid down the shaft and into a giant box of plastic bags. At least we recycled. Once we all climbed out, Nix led us to some vehicles we could use.
I hopped on one of them and he got in behind me. I felt my cheeks getting hotter as he wrapped his arms around my waist. I savored the moment until I saw a hurt look flash across Auron's face. He wasn't...jealous, was he? I could deal with this later. Right now, we needed to stop the freaky business going on with the Empire, and I wasn't going to rest until we fixed it.
