17. Picking Up the Pieces

The flight back home was a quiet one. Vanessa didn’t push for information as I was still hurt by the events that took place earlier that day. I sulked in my sadness for a day before I finally told her everything. How he admitted to cheating, how some hurtful words may have been exchanged, and how I called it off.

I didn’t want to. I know that seems stupid. ‘If you didn’t want to then why did you?’ some may ask. Well, I’ve seen too many girls in the past stay with someone who cheated on her and continued to get hurt. I vowed to myself that I would never be that kind of girl. I know that sometimes they can’t help it, but I’m too fragile and need to save myself before it’s too late.

As I unpacked after the flight, I put anything of Harry’s that was left here in a box. I plan to mail this out to him when I find the time. I have it stored in the depths of my closet for the moment.

Liam tried contacting me a couple of days after. Although I had become good friends with him, I didn’t really want to talk to anyone at that time. He respected that and told me that he was there if I needed someone to talk to.

I try now not to dwell on it as much now. It’s been a week since everything happened, so I keep myself busy. Midterm is coming up, so I don’t have much time to be worrying about a breakup. My internship has kept me on my toes as well.

Vanessa and I were currently helping each other study for upcoming exams. We took a couple of snack breaks here and there, but we attempted to remain focused. Part of the way through our study session, I stopped for a moment. I began to feel sick as I have for the past few days. I took a few deep breaths.

Vanessa looked at me with concern, “You're feeling ill again, aren’t you?” I let out another breath before I continued what I was working on. The nauseating feeling had subsided for the moment. “You should get that checked out.”

“I’m fine,” I rolled my eyes, “it’s probably just the flu.” I had been having these moments since the London visit. I just assumed that it got sick from being out in the rain, nothing to worry about as it will go away soon.

“I don’t know,” she pushed, “It could be serious.”

I slammed my pencil down, “I said I’m fine.” She put her hands up in defeat, mumbling an apology. “I’m going to finish this in my room in peace,” I huffed. I grabbed my things before heading to the back of the apartment.

As I walked away, I heard her mumble, “Moody much.” I rolled my eyes as I made my way for my bed. My plans to study didn’t last long as I found myself drifting off part of the way through.

(A/N)

Hey! Sorry for the long wait. I've had my hands full these past few days with school, cheer, college applications, and my health. I finally found the time to write and I literally finished this in less than an hour. I may update again sometime today, but if not then soon. I'm really in the writing mood so yeah. I hope you enjoyed.
