16. End of the Road

I woke up the next day feeling a little under the weather. I brushed it off, blaming it on the cold, autumn weather from last night. I got out of bed, dreading what today could bring. I tossed my hair up into a messy bun as I strolled over to my suitcase. As I rummaged through it, I heard movement behind me.

“What time is it?” Vanessa yawned. I looked over at the alarm clock on the nightstand.

“About noon,” I replied with a yawn as well. I grabbed a pair of black leggings and a plain white t-shirt before heading to the restroom to get ready for the day. I slid on a black and white floral designed cardigan and a pair of gray boots. “What are you going to do today?” I asked.

“Probably just watch Netflix, lay in bed, maybe order some room service,” she fell back on the bed and let out a loud sigh, “I’m just so tired.”

I laughed to myself, “I feel you on that one. Well, I’ll be back soon.” I waved goodbye as I headed to the parking lot. I hoped in the car and made my way towards Harry’s home here in London. Liam said that he would be there and gave me the address.

As I drove, all I could think about was the article. What was I going to say? Am I overreacting? Will he be mad that I didn’t trust him? What will I do if it’s true? I could only hope that this was a rumor.

Following the directions from the GPS, I arrived at his place before I knew it. For a moment, I just sat in my car, still trying to collect my thoughts. After taking a deep breath, I walked up to his door and knocked.

After thinking some more about the article and how he acted last night, I was a little angry, but I wanted to give him a chance to explain. He opened the door with a smile and let me in.

I walked into the living room without saying a word, Harry following close behind. I sat down and put my head in my hands. My mind was still racing. I had never been put in a situation like this before. I was never good with confrontation.

He sat down next to me and put his hand on my back, but I moved away from his touch. He gave me a confused look. "What's wrong, love?" Harry asked. I shook my head. As I sat there, I realized that whatever happens could possibly make or break our relationship.

I tried to keep the tears from falling. I went to speak but the lump in my throat prevented me from doing so. I mentally face-palmed myself for being so emotional and sensitive. I took out my phone and went to what brought me here in the first place.

Once I found it I passed my phone to Harry. I tried to clear my throat, hoping to say something but all that came out was, “Here.” When he saw what was on the screen, his eyes went wide. By then, the lump had finally gone away enough for me to speak.

"I saw this and I got upset about it, but realized I didn't know the full story. I came here to give you a chance to explain before I listened to what everyone else is saying," I mumbled softly, almost at a whisper tone. I lifted my head and looked at him hoping to get an explanation.

I was quickly let down when all he said was, "Oh.” That made me angry again. Really! All he has to say is oh! Are you serious! At this point I was furious. I was so angry that sitting no longer helped.

"Oh? All you have to say is oh? I give you a chance to explain this mess and all you say is 'Oh'? I can't believe you!" I shouted, my tone slowly getting louder. Now he was mad. He stood in front of me with tears in the corner of his eyes.

"What do you want from me? What do you want me to say?" he asked equally as loud as I was just a moment ago. I felt the tears coming, but I blinked them back.

"I want the truth, Harry! That's all I want, is the truth!" I yelled back, "Is that too much to ask for?" I whispered the last part. His face fell instantly. He looked to be on the verge of tears, as was I.

He shook his head and sat back down. I stayed standing, waiting for an explanation when finally I got one. "They made me. I didn't want to hurt you, but with the album coming out soon, they said I had to. I'm so sorry Alyssa. I truly am," he explained silently letting the tears stream down his face.

"How could you? How could you just forget all we have and just throw it all away? And for what? More publicity? I can't believe you," I said as a tear slid down my cheek. “Is your career really more important than the one you love, or should I say once loved?” The comment came out a lot harsher than I meant it to and I can tell that it hit him where it hurts.

"I had to. Management made me do it," he repeated the same excuse while looking at me. I shook my head. I was tired of holding the tears back. They slid down my face one by one.

"No one can make you do something, Harry. You do what you do because you choose to. No one controls the things you do but you. Don't put the blame on someone else," I retorted as I wiped my cheeks.

"I'm so sorry," he sobbed. I grabbed my phone and headed towards the door, but before I could get too far away, Harry grabbed my arm. "Please don't go," he begged me.

I got my arm out of his grasped and wiped my tears again. "I knew dating you was going to get me hurt in the end."

More tears streamed down his face as those words left my mouth. "Don't say that. You don't mean that," he spoke softly.

"I wish I didn’t, but honestly Harry, I do. I had a feeling and I guess I should have listened to it. I'm sorry, but..." I started to say but he cut me off.

"Please don't say it. Give me another chance," he pleaded with me. I let out a sarcastic laugh. One filled with hurt.

"Why, so I can get hurt again? I'm sorry, but I can't do this anymore," I said getting ready to leave. Before I did, I unclasped the chain around my neck. “Here. Take this please because it’s nothing, but a lie,” I whispered as I placed the necklace he once gave me in the palm of his hand.

I quickly left, slamming the door behind me. I didn’t give him a chance to speak. I was too heartbroken to. As I took a step outside, it started to rain. This day just couldn't get any better.

I attempted to clear my face of any tears, but it was pointless. They continued to fall and soon mixed with the rain that was pouring down. I tried to make it to the car before I got drenched.

On the drive back to the hotel, the reality of what had just happened and what I said had hit me. What I said was harsh, but it’s too late to take it back now. It hurt more to know that the media was telling the truth.

I ran from the car to the entrance of the hotel once I arrived. I made a beeline for the elevator, wanting to get back to our room as soon as possible. When I got there, Vanessa was up packing while watching something on Netflix.

She turned her head at the sound of me opening the door. With one look at me, she was by my side in an instant. “You’re soaked,” she pointed out. I just gave her an annoyed look.

“Sorry,” she apologized, “What happened? How did it go?” She continued to ask questions as I looked for a change of clothes.

“I don’t want to talk about it right now,” I sniffled. I changed into a hoodie and some sweats before beginning to pack as well. She gave me one last glance before leaving me be. We remained quiet as we got things ready for our flight that is later tonight.

Here's the next chapter. Most of it will look familiar, but trust me there is more to it this time. I hope you like this chapter. Let me know what you think.
