Silver Bow

I open the door and see a teenage boy with messy black hair and black eyes.

"Uh...Can I help you?" I ask.

"Can I come in?" he asks, playing with a silver skull ring on his right middle finger. "My name's Nico di Angelo."

When fifteen year old Celeste Arya is introduced to the world of Greek mythology by a strange boy with black eyes, her life is completely switched around. What happens when she finds out she was never meant to be born? Will Celeste live until her sixteenth birthday or will she die saving her mother's skin?

3. First Day

I wake up to voices.

"Leave her alone, Percy," Nico says, agitated.

"Why is she wearing a skull bracelet?" a boy asks.

"Because I gave it to her. Now go," Nico commands.

"Are you taking her to the Hermes cabin after she wakes up?" the boy questions.

"No," Nico says firmly.

"The Hermes kids are idiots. They're careless and reckless. Celeste might get hurt. She's staying with me until she gets claimed. Chiron already approved."

"Why so protective, Nico?"

I can practically hear the smirk in his voice.

"Because I am. Now go," Nico says, getting ticked off.

"Well good morning to you, too," I smirk, opening my eyes.

"Are you okay? Does anything hurt?" Nico asks worriedly, but I shake my head.

"Nothing hurts. I'm fine," I promise.

"You sure?"

"Yeah. Definitely."

"Welcome to Cabin Thirteen," Nico says, opening the door.

That's all I can say.

Beautiful, but very black.

"I put your stuff by your bed," he says, gesturing to a neatly made bed.

"Thank you," I say gratefully. "Is it only us here?"

"Yeah," he nods. "Usually, unclaimed campers stay in the Hermes cabin, but I don't trust them. You'd end up getting hurt by one of their stupid pranks. And Dad and Chiron are fine with you staying here, so there's nothing to worry about."

"I take it you don't like the Hermes kids very much," I say, grinning.

"I don't like anyone very much," he counters, but a small smile plays on his lips. "I like you, though. You're different. I like different."

"I don't like being different," I admit, "but I guess you have to play the cards you're dealt, right?"

"Yeah. I guess so," he frowns. He looks deep in thought. "Anyway...Let's get you a weapon."

I follow him out of the cabin and to a large cabin-like building. He holds the door open for me and I look around, my eyes wide. Swords, knives, maces, and bows. Shields and armor.

"Pick whatever you want," he says, leaning against the doorframe.

Slowly, my eyes graze over the racks of weapons. Nothing catches my eye until I see a silver bow and matching black quiver of silver arrows. I pick both up and Nico makes a choking sound.

"You okay?" I ask and he looks like he's trying to debate between smiling or frowning.

"Those were my sister's. Before she died."

"Oh, I'm sorry," I say, feeling guilty. I go to hand them to him. "Here."

"No," he says, shaking his head. "You should keep them. Bianca would want you to."

"Thanks," I smile. "I'll take good care of them, I swear."

He only nods, staring at me intently.
