I suppose these are just little pieces of me, wrapped up in words.

The forgotten melodies of my mind.

20. Collateral Damage

I was your collateral damage.
The bombed-out building
That stood in your way.
I was your inadvertent casualty.
The playground slide, hole-punched
With bullets. And the child.
I was your unintentional destruction.
The shattered apartment block
Between you and the enemy
I was your secret scar.
The sky stained with smoke,
The streets with my blood.

Now you have your victory;
You found security,
And happiness, and power
Through means of me
And my shell-shocked body.
But I don’t count
I was just your collateral damage.
