Just me

When the music stops is the only one left behind. Niall Horan...

9. Being afraid

We went home to Nialls apartment and was looking up his clothes. I noted that he certainly hadn't bought anything new in five years and I sighed a little bit.
"Should I be honest?"
Niall nodded and he looked around the apartment.
"It's disgusting here." he said. "I see now that I was living in a crappy home."
I smiled at him.
"Yeah, maybe so. But have you seen your clothes?"
Niall looked at me and then he looked down on the shirt I gave in.
"I wasn't good at washing my clothes."
I smiled and walked over to him.
"I'll do anything for you."
He raised his eyebrows.
I kissed him.
"I'll take you into town and buy clothes. You need new clothes if you are going to meet the others."
Niall hesitated.
"But I have no money?"
I smiled.
"I have, I'll take my savings and you can pay back when you can afford?"
Niall looked at me with wide eyes.
"Are you serious?"
I nodded.
"Yes, I do it because you mean everything to me."
Niall blushed.
"It's just crazy. I mean, the girl shouldn't have to pay for the guy?"
I didn't care about what he said. I took his hand and pulled him toward the door.
"But we don't have a normal relationship, so who cares?"

I admit it! Niall was still the best looking guy in the world. When he got on new clothes, he was a changed man. I saw the mischievous boy peeking out, and he became like a teenager again. I saw how his eyes sparkled and he was in heaven.

"You're just too good to be true." he said when we came home to me again. He threw himself on the sofa and looked at all the bags with clothes. "I haven't seen so many clothes in a long time."
I smiled and put me on top of him.
"You need them!"
He nodded and kissed me quickly. Then he pulled his hands through my hair and looked into my eyes.
"I'm so glad you helped me from the park bench."
I giggled.
"Well, I couldn't let you stay there."
He smiled calmly.
"I'll pay back every penny that you spend on me."
I nodded.
"I know!"
He smiled and I saw that he almost had a dreamy look.
"Emelie, do you think that I can still continue with music?"
I nodded.
"Why not?"
He hesitated.
"The thing that was hardest was when I came to music studios looking for jobs. They recognized me and immediately they looked at me as if I was sick."
I didn't know what to say.
"They were probably just insecure?"
Niall shook his head.
"I recognized the look in their eyes. When I stopped doing music all looked askance at me and it was as if nobody wanted to hang out with me."
I hesitated.
"I don't know darling, but I guess they just are afraid. They don't know how they'll be against you?"
Niall nodded and he frowned.
"That's why I ended up wrong in life. I thought nobody liked me and everyone thought I was crap. I felt like an ass hole."
I laughed.
"No, you're wonderful."
He smiled and released me with his eyes.
"Well, let us talk about something else?"
I sat up and looked away at all the bags.
"Niall, you need a closet."
He hesitated.
"I have one at home?"
I smiled and looked at him again.
"Let's say you move in, little by little? We still have to clean out your old apartment and throw it all?"
He laughed a little bit.
"How do you mean?"
I kissed him.
"After this weekend, we can arrange for you to get all the things you want to keep, to my place?"
The truth was that I didn't want to release him. I didn't think Niall would go back to the apartment and stay in a shit hole again. He was worth much more, and now that he had job everything would work out. Niall sat up and he looked at me with wide eyes.
"You mean move in, as in moving in?"
I nodded. I saw how he lit up and he threw himself over me. He hugged me hard and I felt his face pressed against my cheek.
"I love you."
I giggled a little bit and got him to drop me.
"Promise me only to fight."
Niall nodded and I saw tears in his eyes. He quickly wiped them away and blushed slightly.
"Sorry, I'm sensitive."

On Friday, we started to pack all our bags. I had taken time off from work and Niall were in great spirits. He talked all the time and when we were done, I saw that he was nervous.
"Think if they'll look down on me?"
I smiled and hugged him.
"I'm there and I don't care what they say or think."
He took a deep breath and let me off quickly.
"If they ask, I work and have worked a few months at the grocery store and we can say that we been together a long time? Fact that we are moving in together?"
I laughed.
"You don't want to seem small? That's lying?"
He sneezed.
"What should I say? I worked in a pub, I drank every day and I was dying?"
I frowned. I understood him. The truth didn't sound good.
"We say that you have worked there for many years and we have been together a year?"
Niall nodded and he laughed a little.
"Or we say nothing?"
I agreed.
"They may not even ask?"

I must admit I thought the weekend would be exciting. I would meet my idols, or former idols and I would get to talk to them. Niall was too nervous and he smoked many cigarettes before we jumped in the car.
"If I don't make it we go home?"
I smiled at him and started the car.
"Okay, but you have to give them a chance?"
Niall nodded and swallowed.
"And if they start to fight, I also want to go home."
I nodded.
"Okay, just you try?"
Niall was red in the face and he sat next to me and shook. I had to spend way my attention to the road but I knew he was scared.
