Non-Reality

In the year 2050, there is a brand new type of game. It is a virtual reality. John is one of the many people playing this game, and one of the few that know of its secrets. (This is my first Movella, so it's not perfect!) (It is also a WIP Movella, so keep checking for new chapters!)

11. Race

"Go!"

John revved on the ignition and thrusted over the starting line, swerving to avoid the many other people that were ahead of him. The track sloped steeply downhill what looked like several hundred feet. His bike didn't seem to care about the height and neither did John. He powered downhill feeling the G-force affecting his body. The Gs pushed against his body like a two-ton weight. His bike sped up faster, and faster. He felt like he was going to fall apart, along with his bike.

John finally hit the bottom of the track, and shot forward as he hit the 90 degree angle. John reached off his bike and grabbed an item box and it opened in his lap revealing a small cube. He looked at it while looking at the road with his peripheral vision to make sure he wouldn't hit anything ahead of him. He saw a tiny instruction panel on the bottom and read it.

THROW BEHIND BIKE.

John did as it said and whipped it across his shoulder letting it glide down onto the track. It bounced around a few times and the staked itself onto the ground with four metal claws protruding from the top. As the player behind John neared the device, a light on the top blinked red faster and faster as he got closer to it. The man was about 10 feet away from the thing when John recognized his face, it was the guy that tried to steal his game away from him the store! The man ran over the device and all of a sudden, KABLOOEY!!! (That was really fun to write) The man along with his bike blew to bits.

"Serves him right." John thought, and he drove on.

John squeezed an earpiece and brought up an interface that showed the details of the race. John checked his placing. 5th out of 15, good, but John felt that he could do better.

After going through a very uneventful lap, John caught up to the people in third and fourth place. They were battling it out, swerving into each other's bike, each nearly tipping over each time. A row of item boxes sat on the track, but the two racers were too focused on each other and missed them. John took the opportunity and picked up a box and ended up with another sticky bomb. John had an idea, and he hoped it would work.

John floored it and quickly caught up with the two brawling racers. John threw the sticky bomb and it grappled onto the side of the bike. John slowed down to avoid the oncoming explosion.

The bikers unwittingly preformed their last stunt as they crashed together. Poof. They flat out disappeared into thin air. It puzzled John as to where they went, maybe back behind him, or worse. Either way, they were gone, and that's all that he cared about.

John opened a small GUI of the race results so far. He looked at the top right of his screen. It showed that he was in 4th out of 16th place. He wanted to go to first, but then others would see that he was one of the best there. He would stay back at least to third to remain unnoticed by the others. He was in lap two of three, and was about halfway through the last lap. John sped up, passing the one in third place. He would just cruise to the ever closer finish line, remaining peaceful until the end of the race.

John quickly zoomed into the finish line and watched the red and blue fireworks that greeted him at the end.

He made it. He was in the second round.
