His Sword and His Shield

Ciel Phantomhive and his faithful butler, Sebastian Michaelis, have just stumbled across the greatest thing they could ever hope to find; Cecelia is a young Wolf demon who has lost all her memories except for a select few. For example, she knows her last name starts with a "D" and that she is an expert swordsman. When Ciel takes her on as his new bodyguard, things quickly escalate into the greatest mystery anyone could have imagined. All leading up to the biggest question of them all: WHO is Cecelia D?

11. His Bodyguard, Remembering

She was not sure what had awoken her. Perhaps it was the scent of wildflowers or the roaring of a nearby fire. Whatever the reason, she slowly opened her eyes. The roof of a cave was the first sight to welcome her. Sitting up, she flinched at the slight pain in her side. Turning, she gasped as she stared at the bandages. Her clothes had been repaired, though very badly, and the bandages seemed fairly new. Her eyes then traveled to the large pile of dead rabbits lying beside her. She looked at it in disgust. Whoever expected her to eat this was clearly uncivilized. The roaring in her stomach, however, made her consider changing forms and filling it. Shaking her head, she tried to stand. A little shaky, she hugged the cave wall for support. The moment the world stopped spinning, she took a single step.

CLANG! The tip of her toe kicked something. Looking down, she saw where her sword had skittered across the ground. Kneeling down, she inspected it and was relieved to find it unharmed. She tied it to her waist, feeling its warmth radiate through her side. Cecelia stood up once more, relieved to find that world staying still this time.

Lifting her nose, she took a deep inhale. Whoever her rescuer was, he was canine...a LARGE canine. Not wolf, but still wild. Leaving the cave, she found herself in a clearing surrounded by enormous oak trees. The cave appeared smaller on the outside, and was surrounded by flowers of all shapes and colors. No two were the same, and varied in species from rose to a dandelion. There was even baby's breath and tree fern growing on either sides of the cave. Cecelia noticed a large stream running beside the clearing's edge...as well as the young man kneeling beside it.

Drawing her sword, she faced him, "You there! Who are you and where am I?"

Giving a dog-like yelp of surprise, the boy turned to face her. Her would have been taller than her had he been standing. His hair was long and wild, its color as white as freshly fallen snow. His skin was extremely pale, allowing Cecelia to notice he was shirtless as he sat in the tall grass. His demon eyes sparkled like rubies as they widened with joy. Giving a bark, he approached her on all fours. As he came closer, the sword bearer became a deep scarlet. The boy was completely naked!

Drawing her sword, she pointed it at him while at the same time attempting to avoid looking at his genitals, "T-that's close enough."

The boy stopped, tilting his head in confusion.

"Do you not recognize me, Cecelia? Have we been apart that long?"

Not bothering to question the sudden voice in her head, Cecelia tightened the grip on her blade, "I don't know who you are, but you'd better tell me where the hell I am and how I can return to the Phantomhive mansion...now!"

Whimpering, the boy lowered his body to the ground and attempted to inch closer. When a deep growl began to rise in his guest's throat, he stopped and lay flat on the grass.

"It's me...Pluto....do you really...I mean, I had heard rumors," his eyes lowered in sadness, "but I never thought they were true."

Cecelia lowered her sword slightly. Pluto...yes, that did sound familiar. But why?

"Who are you," she asked, "and what are you to me?"

Giving a deep sigh, Pluto sat up, "Perhaps this will help."

Before Cecelia could ask him what he meant, he disappeared in a large puff of smoke. Leaping back in surprise, the Wolf Demon growled as a pair of crimson eyes glowed from within the mist. A giant white snout erupted from the swirling smoke, followed by the body of a dog. Pluto was now larger that two horses standing on top of one another, his gleaming fangs nearly invisible against his fur. He growled deep in his throat as he approached Cecelia. He rose his head high above hers. Instantly, the girl felt challenged. This dog thought he had power over the wolf.

Sheathing her weapon, Cecelia didn't fight the transformation. Everything came naturally, however Pluto gazed at her in confusion.

"Why are you not growing to your true size? Are you so arrogant as to think you can beat me like that? We're not pups anymore, Cecelia. I'm a different Demon now."

"I can't grow anymore. This is who I am-"

"No," Pluto gave a howl of anger, "This is not the mighty Wolf I grew up with! This is not my cousin!"

Cecelia froze, her ears perking up, "Your...cousin?"

"Why do you think I have been trying to find you? Our fathers were brothers! You are my cousin, Cecelia! You are the younger sister of Raul! You are the daughter of Gabriel and Celina! You are Cecelia Duncan!"

She did not move for many moments. Cecelia Duncan? Was that truly her name?

"You are remembering," Pluto growled, "aren't you, Cecelia? You know what I speak is nothing but the truth."

"If you truly are my cousin," the black wolf lowered herself into a laying position, "then tell me everything. I want nothing more than to remember. What was my family like?"

"Well," Pluto joined her in laying down, lounging among the flowers, "your family was well known throughout Hell. They were highly ranked in Satan's court. Their...occupation earned them many enemies. They wished to hide in the realm of Earth in order to protect both you and your brother, Raul."

"Occupation? What occupation was so dangerous that they wanted to leave?"

Pluto's ears flattened in unease, causing him to sit up and look away.

"Pluto," Cecelia growled, rising to her paws, "what occupation?"

Giving a sigh, he turned to give her a serious glare, "Your parents were Satan's assassins. They were to kill any Demon who defied him in any way."

Cecelia, shocked, turned her back on the larger animal. Her head was pounding, sending pain throughout her entire body. It was as though something was slamming itself against the door to her memories, begging to be known.

"Cecelia," Pluto approached her slowly, laying his head around her shoulders, "I know this is going to take some time, but you must believe me when I tell you that your parents loved you and your brother very much."

Instead of answering, Cecelia gave a howl of pain. Pluto, startled, leaped away from her and watched as she slowly began to grow.

"Yes! I remember everything! My mother and father! And Raul! Oh god, Raul. He tried to kill me. He's lost his mind," she turned to her cousin, not at all surprised to find herself now a full size larger than him, "I need to find Sebastian and Young Master! They could be in danger, Pluto! And May Rinn, Bard, and...oh god, Finni!"

Nodding, Pluto turned and led her through the trees. The wolf easily kept in stride, trying hard to not pass her guide but at the same time urging him to hurry. As they approached the road, they each reverted back into their human forms. As soon as she broke the trees, Cecelia took off running. However, Pluto did not follow; rather, he stayed just inside the treeline.

"Pluto," she skidded to a stop, "come on! I may need your help!"

"Cecelia Duncan," she shivered as he said her name, "with your parents dead and your brother refusing the call of Satan, that means you are the new head of the Duncan family! That means YOU are Satan's assassin! Now, what kind of assassin would you be if you couldn't handle a little problem like this on your own?"

Smiling, Cecelia nodded, "One who's not worth her salt! Thank you, Pluto!"

Turning, she began running once more. Coming to a crossroad, she easily regained her bearings and began the short journey back to the Phantomhive estate.
