The Woman Who Won His Heart

Paul Gabriel Black had just moved to Cania, for his new job as Events Director for Defence and Safety in Paire Amster Events. Leaving his girlfriend back home in Mirinthul, who refused his offer of joining him in Lightham and start a new life together, he was determined to persuade her to come and lay out all the reasons in the world that they'd both work out alright.

Scarlett Lee Ryder, researcher for Paire Amster Events had a principle in life: never get into a relationship with colleagues. She was doing just fine for three years with the company, until this new guy suddenly shows her interest.

Paul didn't want to lose his girlfriend, but it was out of his hand if she won't do anything to help their relationship. There are other women in Lightham anyway, and most Paire Amster female specie are obviously dropping hints of liking him, except for Scarlett Lee Ryder

"Circle your legs around me," Paul told her.

"Why?" Lee asked looking up at him.

"So you can anchor yourself well, and avoid slipping down and moving upward again to position yourself."

"Oh, okay," she obediently did so.

Truth is, he didn't want her to feel that he's growing a hard on. He had never been this close to Lee. Sure he likes her as a friend, but when he saw her wearing only a pair of bikini, and when he stayed behind her earlier, there was this need he felt for her. Her arms circled his neck while her breast crushed into his bare chest and it felt good. His arms circled her back, sending her his body heat so she would stop shivering and it worked.

"So is it just Lee?" he asked after an awkward silence.

"What do you mean?" she asked back.

"Your name."

"Oh. My name is Scarlett Lee, it's not just Lee."

"So Lee is your surname."

"My middle name. My last name is Ryder."

"Scarlett Lee Ryder. Nice name you got."

"What about you? Do you have a middle name and a last name?"

Paul laughed. "Full name is Paul Gabriel Black."

"Wow that's a nice name you got." she said pulling lightly away to look at him and smile.

Their faces were inches away from each other and he could very well lean towards her and kiss her. He smiled at her, she smiled back and rested her head on his shoulder. Funny, that none of them knew each other's full name knowing that they had been working together for a long time. Paul watched as Ethan dived into the cold water followed by Kassidy.

Lee turned to look at who it was. "Finally they decided."

"Yeah," Paul answered watching the two paddling towards them.

"It's so fuckin' cold!" Ethan cursed shivering.

"We should have worn our rashies!" Kassidy exclaimed as she reached into Ethan's embrace. "It's freezing."

Paul and Lee laughed.

"It won't be in the next couple of hours," Paul said.

"Yeah," Lee agreed. "Thanks to Paul for offering warmth, otherwise I would climb back into the yacht!"

"The offering works both ways Lee," Paul said to her. "So thank you too."

Lee blushed and turned her attention to Kassidy. "Is Darlene and Wayne joining us?"

"They'll wait till the water gets a little warm," Kassidy answered.

"So are there any exhibitions your working on Paul?" Ethan asked.

The girls went on talking other things.

Paul shook his head, absently running his hands on Lee's back then on her thigh to her knees. "Not as of the moment. We've got an event coming up in a year, and getting seriously busy starts seven months before."

Ethan nodded his head. "It's the Glassbarrow Stock Cars Show next week, are you going?"

"Yes," Paul answered. "Ian said he needed some help there just in case."

"Everyone at the office always helps at the Car show," Ethan said. "Except if a team has a nearing event, then they stay at the office."

"So sales and research team will be there too?" Paul asked.

"Yes, Ian entrusted Lee with the Stock Car Parade." Ethan explained. "It will drive him crazy if Lee isn't there."

"Sounds fun," Paul replied. "What else are the activities?"

"There will be a concert for the whole three nights, stock car race on the first day, second day is the stock car parade and semi finals for the race, then on the last day is the finals for the race. I don't know what are other activities there is for the whole day, the major ones are the only one I know." Ethan explained.

"Guess we will find out when we get there. How far is Glassbarrow?" Paul asked.

"An hour and a half drive from the city," Ethan said.

"How will you get to Glassbarrow Lee?" Paul asked her.

Lee paused from her conversation with Kassidy about shoes, then answered him. "I'm taking a cab there,"

"That will be a lot to pay," Paul told her.

"She always does that since she goes there earlier than anyone of us in the research team," Ethan told Paul.

"I'll come with you if you want," Paul said looking into her eyes.

Lee was silent for a moment. "I'll let you know-"

Paul cut her off with a laugh. "Come on, we live in the same building-"

"You live in the same building?!" Ethan cut him off.

Paul and Lee nodded their heads.

"How did the two of you manage to hide it?" Ethan asked.

Kassidy was smiling knowingly.

"It's nothing to announce Ethan," Lee answered quickly.

Ethan winked at her. Then to Paul he said, "So you two had been hanging out after works?"

Lee shook her head. "He's a busy man,"

"Yes I am," Paul agreed. "The only time Lee and I can hang out is when I hang out with you guys on the weekends."

"Oh," Ethan nodded his head. "So you never really get the chance to be alone together?"

"Sometimes for weekend brunch at Bennie's." Lee answered.

Ethan nodded his head.

Paul knows what was running in Ethan's head. He thinks that Paul has got a hidden desire for Lee to which Paul strongly denies. Lee is beautiful alright, be he haven't felt anything for her at all, except now which he's having a hard on for being so close to her skin to skin. He's not like Kevin who takes advantage when there is a chance.

They climbed up the yacht an hour later and had some beer just in time when Benjamin blew the horn of his yacht. They all went to the aft side of the yacht and waved at Benjamin and crew. Benjamin dropped anchor and stopped ten meters side by side Ethan's yacht.

"Hey Paul! You're here too?" Kevin shouted, Penelope was leaning against him her arms around his waist and his arms around her shoulder.

"Yeah," Paul answered nodding his head.

"So you hang out with the research team now?" Kevin asked.

"I've been hanging out with them for a long time now," Paul answered.

Kevin nodded his head and bent down to kiss Penelope after she whispered something on his ear.

"So they are dating?" Paul heard Darlene ask Lee. The two of them were leaning against the wall.

Lee shrugged. "I don't know."

"Looks like Kevin had a hard time getting in your pants Lee, that's why he preferred Penelope," Ethan said.

Everyone laughed.

"At least he won't keep bothering me anymore." Lee answered.

So he's the partner, Paul thought silently to himself. He needs to watch out for Lee, just in case Kevin will be so touchy again.

"Hey sugar, I didn't know you and Paul were dating." Kevin sat beside her on the sand.

Everyone was on the island now, having beer after lunch. Aliza, Benjamin's girlfriend, Kassidy and Darlene were putting up a volleyball net. Alex, his girlfriend Monique, Ethan and Wayne were cooking barbecue chicken and pork. Penelope and Paul were talking under a tree, she was looking up at him expectantly Paul was smiling at her.

"Paul and I aren't dating Kevin," she replied and took a sip of her beer.

"Then why is here with you?" Kevin asked. "You walked out on me last night."

Lee rolled her eyes. "Paul told you that he had been hanging out with us for a long time right? And yes I walked out because I didn't like the fact that you kept touching me."

"I'm sorry about that Lee," he apologize.

Lee knew Kevin was sincere when he said that. She doesn't have anything bad against him and the two of them had been office friends ever since Kevin joined the company. "It's okay. But I'm not gonna tolerate any of those actions in the future Kevin."

He smiled at her. "I promise. Friends?" he extended his hand.

"Friends," she shook it. "So whats with you and Penelope? You sure aren't using her right?"

"I bumped into her at one of the bars last night," Kevin said. "We hanged out for an hour or so, then I dropped her off at her place. She then invited me sailing today."

Lee nodded her head. She doubted that Kevin just dropped Penelope off, from that kiss they shared earlier, it was obvious that something had already happened between them. Lee doesn't care about her team's personal lives as long as they don't get hurt. As for Penelope and Kevin's case they are both working in the same office, and if they get into fights it will affect their working environment. Lee doesn't want delay in her teams task just because of some lovers quarrel.

"Don't fool around with Penelope Kev," she said in a friendly warning.

"I won't," Kevin answered. "Here they come,"

Paul and Penelope headed their way and Paul extended his hands to Lee.

Confused, she took Paul's hands and stood up.

"Lucky you," Penelope whispered in her ear and sat beside Kevin.

Lee looked down at her. "What?"

"Nothing," Penelope shook her head.

"Let's go for a walk," Paul said. His hands on hers, he guided her towards the water and sat down.

Lee sat beside him took the last drop of her beer. "What's up?"

"Nothing," Paul shook his head.

"Why do we have to sit far away from Kevin and Penelope?" she asked.

Paul looked at her. "I didn't want us to disturb whatever they are having now."

"So what did she told you?"

"She said she used to like me,"

Lee grinned. "Finally."

"But she said I'm safe now because she's dating Kevin,"

"That was quick,"

Paul nodded his head. "I know. She also said that I am free to date you."

Lee raised an eyebrow. "Why?"

Paul shrugged. "I really don't know what's wrong with your team. But they seem to like the idea of us together."

She laughed nervously, her insides turning, her hands and feet becoming cold. She was suddenly conscious being near Paul as images of them embracing each other came back to her. "Don't mind them, they just want me to have a boyfriend."

"So why not go out on a date then?" Paul asked her searching his eyes.

"I told you no one asked me. If someone did I sure will say yes." Dammit! She wished she never said that!

"How about I find you a date?" Paul suggested.

Lee studied him closely. "No thanks Paul, I'm not desperate."

"It will be fun I'm sure," he said excited.

"And how will you find me a date?"

"We'll register you an account on some dating sites," he suggested.

She raised an eyebrow. "I have no offense against dating sites, but isn't that dangerous?"

"Hey, I'll be watching you on your dates don't worry,"

Lee was silent for a moment. Why not? I haven't been dating for so long and I missed being taken care of. Maybe this isn't a bad idea after all. "Maybe I can try that," she answered.

"Cool! We'll do the registration when we get back home today," Paul said smiling. "It's time for you to be dating again."

"Good luck with that."

"It will be fun!"

They played volleyball in the afternoon, girls versus boys. Lee always offered to be the scorer because she didn't like hitting the ball with her hands. She'd rather play hockey or basketball. Alex was the referee. Lee had put on a sun glass as she watched the game, she couldn't help but watch Paul. He's got a really nice body, and she had been in that body this morning. She watched as his muscle's stretched when he serves or ran towards a falling ball. Paul's girlfriend is so lucky to be with him, if she just change her mind and come to Cania to live with him. She should ask Paul about what's been going on with him and his girlfriend.
