Firelfies

Taryn was always different from the other girls. She always felt as if she was meant to be somewhere else. One day she falls asleep and is whisked away to a world of soundless music, golden skies, fireflies, and twinkling stars. She meets a mysterious boy named Seph in a series of these dreams, but after a while, Taryn starts to suspect (maybe hope) that this alternate universe is more than just a dream. Based on the song: Fireflies by Owl city

4. The Wake Up

I'd like to make myself believe

That planet earth turns slowly

And it's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep

'Cause everything is never as it seems

I wake up leaning on the tree that I fell asleep on, with my book lying on my stomach. I sit up automatically. I have to get home, or my mom will freak. I had to forget the dream for now, I would think it over later. I ran home as fast as possible. When I got in the door, my mother was already cooking breakfast.

"Oh, honey, I'm so sorry for accidentally taking your key. Wherever did you sleep while we were at that party?" She asked.

" Oh, I was at, ummmm, Amy's house." I lied. My mother looked over the counter and opened her mouth in surprise. "What happened to your hair?!?" She demanded to know. I instinctively held a hand up to my head, and felt something. Leaves. From the tree. But, that was impossible. The tree was a dream. I never climbed a tree with a boy named Seph, I never went to a land where the sky was golden, and we were alone in the world.

"Excuse me, I have to go." I say, and I rush upstairs to my room. I look in the mirror at my hair, there were leaves all over it. Maple leaves. I gulped. I pulled one of the leaves off and saw what I couldn't before. There was an orange streak in my once- dirty blonde hair. I have no idea what happened last night. I wanted to believe it was real. I truly did. It was just impossible. My entire existence had just been questioned. I spent the next hour or so furiously trying to wash the orange streak out of my hair, but it was like it was my natural hair colour. I gave up and finally went to my bed.  Wondering if I was going to stay there tonight.
