Make a girl fall in love with you in thirty days (or less). Breaking innocent and naive girls' hearts for their own entertainment. That was the game that they played, and Luke Hemmings was the very best. When he's given a victim, he thinks it's no big deal and does it for the quick and easy cash, but he had no idea what he was getting himself into when he said he wanted a more difficult target.

7. chapter seven

A/N: HOLLA! A new chapter! So uh, this one is a little bit crazy...oops! Shoutout to @dannicaxo on twitter because she always comments and fangirls about my story with me! Love you! Also, shout out to my bestie Demi because she reminded me to update. (Sorry for the language in the story btw.) I'll probably update tomorrow or again tonight!

"Hey, Luke, it's Autumn. Why haven't you called me back? It's been like two days...are you alright? I'm starting to-" Delete. I groaned, rolling over to the other side of my bed as I deleted the fifth voicemail I had gotten from Autumn in the past two days. I had been avoiding her due to the little conversation I had with Michael in the car after my parents' dinner party. I quickly sat up, hearing a knock on my front door.

"Luke! Open the freaking door! We need to talk!," Demi screamed. "Now!"

I walked down stairs, trying not to trip as I pulled on a pair of skinny jeans. I didn't have a shirt on and had messy hair. "Demi?"

She barged her way into the house, yanking on my arm, and pulled me to the couch. "Sit." She commanded, pointing to the couch, and if I hadn't been completely frightened by her, I would have felt like a dog. "Listen up. I was at the mall with my friend Ashley and her boyfriend, James. And do you wanna know what they told me?" She looked at me, and if looks could kill, I'd be six feet under.

She tapped her foot and crossed her arms, not breaking our eye contact once. "Well?"

"I...don't know."

"Then you better listen, and you better listen good, because here's what they said. They told me that you were the biggest, most arrogant douchebag and playboy at our school. Which-no offense-by your looks, I can kind of see."

"Hey!" I said, very offended.

"I'm not done," she said, and I listened to her again. "They also said you make bets with your friends to see how long it takes to get a girl to fall in love with you." She walked closer to me and I actually was afraid she was going to shank me with her nails or something. "If Autumn is part of the bet, you either need to end it with her now, or if you actually care about her, end the bet. She is my best friend and you are the first guy she's ever really cared about. If you mess her up, I will mess you up. Got it?"

I nodded. "I...okay."

We both glanced over to the front door and broke the tension by laughing as Michael let himself in. "Hey man."

Danica was with him, a pretty brunette who he had been friends with for the longest time. "Hey, Luke."

"Hey Danica, Mikey."

"Hey, Mikey." Demi said, looking confused.

"Aww, Mikey, who's this?!" Danica asked, causing him to blush.

"I-uh-this is-," he stuttered, and Demi cut in, obviously jealous.

"I'm Demi. His girlfriend." She slightly emphasized the word girlfriend and I burst out laughing.

"Hi, I'm Danica, it's so nice to meet you! Sorry to randomly meet you like this, I've been catching up with Michael all day," she smiled, and Demi did not look okay.

"Dem, let's go get some drinks for everyone," I suggested and she glared at me.

"Perfect." We started walking towards the kitchen and she glared at me. "By the way," she smacked my arm, "only Autumn can call me Dem."

"Ouch!" I playfully winced, causing her to crack a slight smile. "Come on, Demi, lighten up. They're just friends."

"But she's pretty and they were hanging out-"

I laughed before cutting her off. "Number one, you're pretty too. Autumn would like spray paint your mirror with 'you're beautiful, quit looking' if she found out about this. And number two, Michael loves you," her eyes widened when I said that and she smiled. "Danica and Mikey have never dated, and probably won't. She has a thing for someone else. They're super close though. Best friends. But," I paused, making sure I hadn't lost her, "not as close as Mikey and I. As his best friend, I can promise you that he spent most of the day telling her how wonderful you are."

"Really." She hugged me and I chuckled. "Come on, don't keep him waiting." I winked.

"Hey, Mikey, we are all out of...pretty much everything, actually, so here." I tossed him two bottles of water and he chuckled.

"Alright. Thanks, man."

We all stood around in the hallway, Danica and I trying extra hard to embarrass Mikey and Demi.

"-and then he spent like twelve minutes talking about how cool it is that you dye your hair!" Danica said, causing Michael to blush, and I burst into laughter. I heard a knock on the door, and walked over laughing, expecting Ashton.

"Are you going to let me in or go hang out with my best friend and your new girlfriend?" She snapped.

"What are you talking about?" I snapped right back.

"I don't know. Maybe the fact that you haven't called in two days and then invite my best friend and another girl over. You know what? Forget it." She stormed towards her car. I quickly shut the front door of the house and chased after her. She climbed into the drivers seat and I climbed into the passenger side immediately afterwards.

She picked up her phone and quickly dialed a number, ignoring the fact that I was still in the car. "Hey, Ash, it's Autumn. What are you and Cal doing tonight?"

She glared at me, and I could hear Ashton talking on the other line but couldn't make out what he was saying.

"Perfect. I'll be there." She hung up the phone and looked over at me. "Get the hell out of my car, I have a party to go to."

"Autumn," I warned, "you don't want to go to a party that Cal throws. I love Calum, but his parties are bad news."

"Get out of my car."

I looked over at her and she blankly stared at me. "No." I leaned towards her, pressing my lips against hers, giving her no choice except to kiss me. Our lips moved in fiery synchronization and I deepened the kiss. She began to pull away with a sad look in her eyes. "Luke, I really need to go." I slowly got out of the car, and as soon as I shut the door, she sped off.

I walked through the front door and the room went silent. "What the hell happened?" Michael asked.

"Autumn got mad at me, then I kissed her, and she is currently on her way to a party. A Calum and Ashton party."

"No. She can't go to that!" Danica said and Michael agreed.

"Wait, why not?" Demi asked and Michael sighed.

"Alcohol. Sex. Drugs. Violence." Michael said.

"Calum's hardcore when it comes to partying." I explained and Demi glared at me.

"What the actual-" She started, but Michael cut her off with a kiss.

"It's okay, babe. Don't cuss please." He said, kissing the top of her forehead.

"Oh, and uh, there's something else..." I trailed off, scratching the back of my neck.

"What is it?" Danica asked.

"I think Autumn thinks I cheated on her."

"What the actual fuck, man??" Michael practically screamed and I jumped back.

"I have to go to the party." I said, walking towards the door. "Don't wait up for me!" I yelled, shutting it behind me.

Her accusation of Danica being my "new girlfriend" echoed over and over again in my head. And for the first time, I felt like I was the one being left heartbroken.
