16. Chapter 15: Family

Star's POV:

As I looked down at the sleeping Violet my heart clenched at the sight of her battered body. She didn't deserve this, she was such a good person always looking to help people.

I watched as she stirred in her sleep, the strange thing was that she was smiling. Every time she gives a genuine smile it's always so bright and it goes straight to her eyes, it made it seem like everything was going to be alright.

I never thought that someone could be so cruel to their own child. I'd suspected an abusive boyfriend we didn't know about, but never had I thought it was her father. I feel so bad we didn't get her out of their sooner. Now that she's with us and we know what's happening, we're not going to let her go. She would be part of the family permanently.

Me and the rest if the pack were going to her house to see if she could talk but instead found her father leaving and her left bleeding on the ground. We then brought her back to the cabin we're renting in the woods, we haven't found a big enough house yet that's for sale so we're crashing there until we do.

I looked down at Violet one more time before leaving the room. "I hope she'll be okay" I though with a sigh.

Violet's POV:

I slowly started to awake, the pain flooding back. I opened my eyes and saw I was in a rustic looking room and was laying on the bed. I slowly started to get up getting dizzy as I did so. I got off the bed and headed toward the door on wobbly legs.

As I reached for the handle it turned in my hand. The door swung open leaving me standing there shocked. Relief flooded through me as I saw the familiar face.

Phoenix was standing there with an expression mirroring mine. He then got a wide smile that looked a little unnatural on his face. "Guys she's awake" he screamed. i heard feet bounding up the stairs and then two bodies crashed into me attacking me with bear hugs and cheek kisses, I knew instantly that it was the twins and squeezed back. "We're glad you're okay" they whispered in each ear.

They pulled away but was soon replaced with Phoenix and Raven. Then my best friend launched herself into my arms suffocating me in a giant hug. When she let go I saw there faces grow serious and the smile wiped off my face. I looked down ashamed that they had found me like that.

Micah grabbed my hand and let down the stairs into a bare living room. There was furniture and thats about it. The whole house looked the same, unoccupied. We all sat on the couches and a silence overcame the room.

After five minutes of silence I couldn't take it anymore and said in a hoarse voice " I suppose you guys want to know what happened?" They shook their heads yes so I started my story.

"Ok... It all started when I was three,we were happy my mom remarried and he was a great guy. He quickly became my dad and he accepted me as his own, he loved me" I said in a haze. All the memories replayed in my head. I shook myself from my thoughts and continued.

"My dad and I were inseparable, he was the best dad a girl could ask for. My mom was amazing and they were so in love, we were the perfect family." That was before the accident.I swiped them away and told the rest of my story.

When I was about twelve we had just come home from my cousins birthday party when I had started complaining that I didn't feel good. My mother thought I had a fever so she decided to go to the store to get me medicine. It was late and pitch black outside but she refused my father when he asked her to wait till morning.

That night she never came home. They found her body the next morning in an ally clutching a bag of children's medicine. She was an amazing person who didn't believe in violence. The whole community mourned her death.

Dad wasn't the same, he was empty, a shell of the man he was. He stopped trying, not eating or talking or even getting out of bed. He tried for me and still showed love for me even when he was broken but that changed when he turned to drinking. It would numb him so he wouldn't feel the heartbreak.

At first he was okay but what was one smack turned into daily beatings. He became hateful and angry all the time and turned his grief into blame on me. In his eyes I was the one that took his love away. I was the one that killed my mother...
