Too Close

Becca is a 17 year old girl from Washington, but when she leaves her hometown with her dad to start over in a place she's always dreamed of, will it love up to expectation?

1. Nice Talking to You!

Hey guys !! So I thought of the opening of this story while in the shower. just kinda put it all together just now. Just go with it. :)

August 15, 2012~

"Hey Beck, wanna hang out?" a voice rings in my ear.

"Sure, I'll grab my longboard and meet you at your house." I smile into the phone.

"Sounds good." he says.

I hang up and hop out of bed.

I throw my shorts and tank top on, then throw my long ombré hair into a ponytail.

I walk downstairs and tell my dad where I'm going and head down the street on my longboard.

I get up to the door and knock waiting for a response.

"HEY BECK!" the door opens and out comes my best friend since I was like 3.

JC Caylen.

"JC!!" I shout back jokingly and give him a big hug.

Then Wishbone, his dog, comes up and jumps up on to me, making us both start laughing hysterically.

"So what should we do on this lovely day?" he says with his cheeky grin.

We decided to longboard down to the park and get some ice cream.

After a while of hanging out taking crazy videos JC gets this serious look on his face.

"You okay?" I ask him.

He turns to me and says;

"Beck.. I had so much fun today. You know you're my best friend no matter what right?"

I look at him confused; "I had fun too, and yeah I know, why?"

"Just wanted to make sure." he says looking very glum.

"Well I have to head home to make dinner for my dad, I'll talk to you later, hopefully we can hang out tomorrow." I smile and hug him.

"Later Beck." he smiles.

RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!! The last school bell rings.

I must've zoned out or something.

I just keep thinking back to that day.

That was the last day I talked to my best friend.

It's been two years, not a phone call or text or anything. He just got up and left.

I tried to push it put of my mind, but today was September 11, his birthday, it's hard to forget someone, especially on their birthday..

I rush home to my dad, he said it was important - I immediately think the worst possible thing, because of the fact it's just my dad and I, my older brother left when he was 17, that was about 4 years ago. we haven't talked since, and my mom passed when I was about 13-

I get home to see him on the couch watching tv.

"Dad, you okay?" I ask nervously.

He looks up at me with a big grin on his face.

"Remind me if we could move anywhere in the United States, where would you want it to be?" he grins.

"That's a pretty specific question, but I'd have to say California, why?"

At this point I'm just so beyond confused.

"Well, my job is asking me to move out there to work in the new offices.." he says.

"And, if you'd like, we can move out there." he smiles.

Oh my God.

I've always wanted to go there, to live there, and to get out of Washington leaving everything behind.

My dream college is out there, the warm sun, the beaches, the people, I've just envisioned myself living there.

I look up at him and smile.

"How soon can we move out there?" I ask not able to stop smiling.

"Start packing the essentials and let me know when you're done, we can head out there as soon as you're ready." he smiles and looks back at the television.

I'm moving to California.

Leaving Washington in my shadow.

I text my close friend Lisa and tell her what's happening, she couldn't believe it.

Lisa really is the only one I'm leaving behind, I didn't have many friends, so it's just been her and I the past few years.

I head upstairs and pack my favorite outfits, I make sure I pack bathing suits, shoes, my make up and hair styling things, and my laptop.

I'm ready to start over..
