The Only One

Two teenagers quickly become tangled up in the world of wizards and witches, but as enemies strike and relationships are lost, the world of magic comes crashing down; taking everything and everyone down with it.

12. Erised

*Draco's POV*

The guards let us in, and we walked silently to Snape's classroom.

"What do you say once we find him?" Maggie asks, not too fond of the idea of Snape.

"We tell him why we're here…We found his diary, and we want to kill him." He says blankly.

Knock, Knock, Knock

"Professor Snape?" I call, entering his dark classroom.

"Malfoy? What on earth are you doi- Potter? Where have all you been?" Snape rushes over to us, not in a concerned manner, but more like a curious one.

"We don't have much time. Voldemort is coming, but we have found something that can help defeat him…We found his diary." Harry says, stepping forward.

"Where?" Snape asks, surprised.

"The restricted section of the library." I answer.

"I'll punish you for that later." He says. "Show it, boy." He says pointing at Harry.

"Here.." He hands the diary to Snape.

"We know what five of the horrocruxes are. Professor Quirrell…Nangini, Marvolo Gaunts ring, Me, as we already know, and Salazar Slytherine's Locket…" Harry says.

"Professor Quirrell…" Snape mutters, flicking through pages.

"I always knew there was something off about him, but I didn't think it was this big." Snape says.

"We must inform Dumbledore, come now." He leads through the corridor.

"It is, in fact, possible to remove a horrocrux from someone. It takes great strength, but we can manage." Dumbledore says.

"What!? Harry, this is great!" Hermione says, throwing her arms around Harry's neck, and Anna does the same.

"I know where all 5 of these Horrocruxes are located, and after some research of my own, I know where the other Horrocruxes are too." Dumbledore announces.

"Let me show you…" Dumbledore leads us over to the cauldron where Maggie and Anna received their memories of Kyle and Emily.

As i dunked my head under what seemed like water, the Dumbledore's room disappeared, and I was in another classroom in Hogwarts.

Standing in front of me was a boy around 16, with slick blond hair and a lanky body, and Professor Slughorn.

"Well, Well, It can't hurt to give you an overview, of course. Just so that you understand the term. A horcrux is the word used an object in which a person has concealed part of their soul." Professor Slughorn says nervously, to the boy whom I now know is Tom Riddle, Voldemort.

"I don't understand how that works, sir." Tom Riddle says, walking closer to Professor Slughorn, with a sly smile.

"Well, Tom, you split your soul…and hide it in an object outside of your body. Then if one's body is attacked or even destroyed, the parts of the soul would remain…but very few want that Tom.  Many would prefer death…" Professor Slughorn say cautiously.

"How exactly does one spilt his soul?" Tom Riddle asks.

"Well, first, you must understand that the creating these horcruxes is very un-natural, and it unbalances natures way. It is an act of violation."

"Sir, how do you do it?" Tom presses the subject, and I can see rage forming in his eyes.

"By an act of evil - the supreme act of evil. By committing murder. KIlling rips the soul apart. The wizard's intent on creating a horcrux would use this damage to his advantage…" Professor Slughorn says.

Slowly, Professor Slughorn's classroom dissolves, and i'm in a forest.

I see Tom Riddle writing furiously in his Diary, and then ripping out the pages before throwing them into the river.

"I WILL BE THE BEST." He screams to the forest.

Next to him is some sort of crown, and he pulls out a wand. Across from him is a girl, looking very confused.

"Avada Kedavra!" Voldemort shouts and flicks his wand to the girl, causing her to fall, lifelessly on the ground.

He doesn't even show remorse, he doesn't even flinch. It was a horrible sight.

We simply picked up the crown and began speaking in chants.

He was making another Horcrux.

The forest then dissolves before me, and I was in another classroom, next to Tom Riddle.

He was standing in front of another dead girl, with the Hufflepuff cup in front of him, chanting.

The last scene I was transported to, was in the forest again, and he was chanting into some kind of book…No…It was his diary! His diary is one of the Horcruxes, and we can destroy it!

Dumbledore insisted that we stay at Hogwarts for the time being, until we figured out what to do about Voldemort.

Later that evening, Maggie and I sat down in the Slytherin common room together.

"What are we going to do?" She asks, looking up at me.

"I don't know, but i don't want to think about it right now.." I reply.

"I want to show you something." I say, reaching down for her hand to guide her, which she kindly accepts.

*Maggie's POV*

Draco led me through corridor after corridor, then down a long set of stairs, into a dark room with nothing but a mirror.

"What this?" I ask him, laughing.

"This is the mirror of Erised." He says, walking over to it and running his fingers along the edges of it.

The edges were beautifully carved wood, and a light brown colour.

I thought for a moment it was to supposed to be some kind of not funny joke, until I walked in front of it.

I saw myself standing, but with Draco next to me…holding my hand. I quickly looked down at my own hands, and Draco was not holding them…in fact he wasn't even next to me. I look from the mirror back to my hands before I ask what this mirror shows.

"Does this show the future?" I asked, my voice full of hope, but also embarrassment.

"Can you see what I can see?" I ask him, blushing.

"Nope. Nobody see's the same thing, and i cannot see what you see, just as you cannot see what I see. What do you see?" He asks.

"What should I be seeing?" I ask looking back at the mirror. Draco and I were now facing each other, and he slowly brought his lips to mine. I gasp, and look at the floor sheepishly.

"It shows the most deepest and desperate desire of one's heart. Erised spelt backwards is desire."

I immediately blush. This couldn't be right. Could it? Was being with Draco my deepest desire?

"So…what do you see?" He asks, curiously.

"Um..Anna…and I, with Kyle and Emily. We're all laughing, we're happy and safe." I lie, because thats what I should've been seeing.

I take one more looking at the mirror before stepping to the side, and letting Draco step in front of it, and his face looks immediately surprised.

*Draco's POV*

"What do you see?" I hear her ask me nervously.

Every single time that i've been here I've seen the exact same thing. I was standing in between my mother and father laughing at a joke my dad said. Except this time I saw something completely different.

I saw Maggie and I in an embrace and me planting a kiss on her forehead.

What was happening to me? This doesn't happen to me…I don't fall

"Draco?" I hear her voice, which pulls me out of my thoughts.

I bring my eyes over to her and let myself look at her. She was beautiful, more beautiful i've ever seen.

"I usually see my parents and I happy, but this time I saw something different…" I say, slowly walking over to her.

"What did you see?" She softly whispers.

"I saw you.." I say, brushing my fingers against her flushed cheeks.

"Me?" she looks surprised, but she smiles.

"I lied about seeing my friends in the mirror.." She looked down, sheepishly.

"I saw you. You were holding my hand." She looks at me, and takes a step towards me.

I look her in the eyes, and I could feel her breathe against my skin. She smelled of the cinnamon buns we had eaten before. From the trembling of her hands I could tell how nervous she was, so I guided them around my neck, and brushed a lose piece of her behind her ear. As I leaned in towards her I heard her suck her breathe in. I closed my eyes and gently pressed my lips against hers, before waiting for her response. Her lips were soft and warm, just as I'd imagined them being. She curled her fingers through my hair and I pulled her waist closer to mine.

"How beautiful young love can be…" A voice suddenly spoke, causing us both to jump and unlock from our embrace.

"Who's there?" I called, stepping in front of Maggie.

"Why don't you ask her, she must remember my voice." The voice laughed, but it was cold and empty.

*Maggie's POV*

Voldemort. I could distinguish that voice anywhere.

"Who is it?" Draco whispered, keeping his locked in font of him.

"Voldemort." I say coldly.

"We have to get out of here." He whispers as he pushes me back.

"Yes, you do." Voldemort says, appearing in front of us.

I heard Draco suck his breath in.

"But you can't." Voldemort says, smiling cruelly.

"I believe you have something of mine." He says.

His diary.

"I have no idea what you're talking about." Draco says, without emotion.

"Ah, Malfoy. You betrayed me once, don't be so stupid to do it again. I want it back." He says, inching closer. I see Nangini slither behind him, and I nudge Draco.

"You don't belong here. At Hogwarts or with the girl. You belong with me…with your parents." Voldemort says.

"I belong nowhere with you or my parents. Hogwarts is my home, and that will never change. Threaten me all you like, I'll never join you." Draco says, standing tall.

"That just makes you stupid. What a shame, you could've been handy." Voldemort takes out his wand.

"CRUCIO!" He shouts and points his wand at Draco.

Draco fall to the floor, screaming louder than I've ever heard before. Voldemort preformed the Cruciatus Curse, which causes excruciating pain to the victim.

I run over to Draco, screaming for help.

"STOP!" I scream desperately.

"Say please." Voldemort snickers.

"Will you do me a favour?" He asks.

"Yes." I hold me breath.

"Come with me. Join me and you're friends with bear no harm. I will forget about my Horcruxes. If you don't want to join me I completely understand, but you friend here will die. So will Anna."  He says, extending his hand.

"I'll join you. Please just stop." I say, not even thinking.

Draco's screaming immediately stops, but he's not conscious anymore.

I slap away Voldemort's hand as I stand up, and take one last look at Draco. I feel tears welling in my eyes, but I force them back in.

"The old man is coming, we must go." Voldemort says, referring to Dumbledore.

Before the door bursts open, Voldemort grabs my hand and all I see is black.
