The next morning when I wake up and look in the mirror, my eyes are puffy from lack of sleep and my hair looks flat and greasy. I hop in the shower, hoping I can wake myself up and clear my head. I tossed and turned all night thinking about Niall. I'm sure everyone else did too. When I emerge from the bathroom in fresh clothes and my wet hair combed into a ponytail, Emma is waiting for me. "We're heading out right away to look for Niall," she tells me. "Liam, who knows him best, thinks he's probably somewhere nearby. So we'll stick to the surrounding areas for now." I nod mutely and follow her out the door and toward the lake, where Aubree, Lacey, Zayn, and Liam are already standing. Being back here at the lake reminds me of seeing Niall and Kat kiss, and I shudder imperceptibly. I push the memory out of my mind as I see Harry, Louis, and Kat heading towards us. Everyone discusses where we should look first, but I stay quiet. I wish this could just be over. Eventually we decide to look in the woods first, and then after that if we haven't found him, spread out. Lacey and I forge our way through branches and bushes, trying to avoid getting cut on a thorn or scratched by a tree. "What if he's, like, right here?" Lacey asks suddenly. "What do you mean?" I reply. Lacey stops. "What if he's right here in the woods, and has been here the whole time? What if this whole search party thing is hopeless. Maybe he was going to come back on his own." I crouch down and retie my sneaker while thinking about what she said. It's possible, I guess. When I stand up, Lacey is staring at me expectantly. "Maybe you're right," is all I say back. I feel my phone vibrate in my back pocket of my shorts, and I pull it out. "Is it Niall?" Lacey asks excitedly. I shake my head. "No, it's just my mom." I read her text. Ansley is in the hospital. Dad is coming to get you now. "What?" I cry. I read the message again. "Oh my God," I say, my stomach knotting itself in worry. "What is it?" Lacey responds. "My twin, she's...she's in the hospital. My dad is coming to get me right now." Lacey looks worried. "What happened?" I shrug. "I don't know. But I have to go!" I run in the direction of the camp, not caring about the scratches that surely are covering my legs and arms and face. I just need to get to Ansley.
"Mom! What happened?" I exclaim, rushing toward my mom when I see her in the waiting room of the hospital. "Ansley, she...almost drowned," my mom tells me, her face pale and shaken. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. "Is she okay?" I ask, afraid to hear the answer. My mom nods slightly. "They think she'll be alright. We'll be able to see her soon." A doctor turns the corner and walks over. "Mrs. Sidheag," he says. "May I talk with you?" My mother stands and they begin to talk in hushed voices. When the doctor leaves, my mom sits back down beside me and sighs. Then she looks up at me. "There's someone who wants to talk to you," she says. "Okay," I reply, wondering who it could be. A girl appears from behind her, and for a moment, I'm speechless. She looks exactly like me and Ansley. It's my other sister.
