"Ally, are you coming?" Niall calls over his shoulder as he bounds toward the water grinning. I hesitantly take off my shorts and crop top, suddenly a little worried about going in. Niall pauses and looks at me. "You look...great," he says, his cheeks turning pink. I smile a little and run up to him. "Yeah, I'm coming," I say, taking his hand. Together, we run into the waves. The cold water shocks me, and for a second it's hard to breathe. I look at Niall. He's smiling at me. "Just a little cold, isn't it?" he asks. I shiver. "Uh, just a little," I reply. "I'm swimming out farther," he says. "I know you don't like deep water..." I shrug. "I'll come. I have to get over my fears eventually, right?" He nods and takes my hand again. We dive under the wave coming toward us and surface a few feet away from each other. The water's up to my shoulders now, and most of my body is going numb. "I've been waiting to have a real date with you," Niall comments. "Me too," I tell him. "I mean, we've done stuff around the camp, but nothing really outside of there." Niall's eyes twinkle. "Unless you count the hospital," he adds jokingly. "I don't," I reply, forcing a smile on my face when I think about Niall in the hospital. "Don't be sad," he says, coming over to me and hugging me. "That's not what I wanted. Let's just have a good time today." Should I tell him about the text I got? No, I don't think so. I don't want him to get mad at Zayn again. What if it wasn't even Zayn? Niall and I swim for a while longer, but then I start to get hungry. "Did you bring food?" I ask hopefully. "No, I forgot," Niall says, his face falling. "It's okay," I say trying to hide my disappointment. "Kidding!" he exclaims. "I got you that time!" I smack him lightly in the arm. "I actually believed you!" I say, pouting. I let a wave carry me to shore, and then I dart over to my towel and wrap myself in it. I wring out my hair, and sit next to Niall on the sand. He hands me a sandwich. "Made them myself," he says proudly. I make a disgusted face. "Guess I don't want it then," I say, pushing it back at him. "Hey," he says, and frowns. "I'm joking Niall," I say. "I get to because you tricked me." He shrugs. "Fair enough." The beach is nearly deserted, which makes me think the text was just some type of joke. I just wish I knew who sent it. After we're done eating, Niall asks if I want to take a walk. "Yes," I say, my face lighting up. I like having fun with Niall, but I also like just talking with him. We walk along the water's edge, occasionally kicking water at one another. "Ally, I want to thank you," Niall says a few minutes into the walk. "Why?" I say, puzzled. "A lot of other girls would leave me if they found out I have cancer, but you stayed with me, and I'm glad for that. I honestly can't thank you enough." We stop walking, and I turn to him. "Any girl who really loved you would stay," I say. "I guess so," he admits. "I just don't know how I can thank you." I look into his blue eyes, and my heart beats fast in anticipation. "I know how," I say, bringing my face closer to his. His lips meet mine and his hands cup my face. "We're in public," he whispers through the kiss. "There aren't that many people," I reply softly, suddenly feeling bold. Eventually, he pulls away and wraps his arm around me. "I don't know what I did before I met you," he says. "I'm glad we met," I reply. He smiles and gives me a quick peck on the cheek. "Me too, sweetheart," he says.
