I awoke the next morning with a dreadful hangover. Jack was sitting at the bottom of my bed looking irritatingly fresh.
"Good morning sunshine." His annoyingly perky voice told me the answer to my question 'do vampires get hangovers?'
"Urgh, stop being so cheerful," I rolled over and hid my head under my pillow, "I don't even remember getting home last night."
"Don't worry, I looked after you. You really are a charming drunk." His words were innocent but I could hear the laughter in his voice and I groaned.
"I don't want to know!"
"Oh you didn't do anything too bad, you just lost all control over your legs. I had to carry you home." I groaned louder but he continued. "That idiot covered in sparkles didn't seem to like it when I carried you out. He was shooting me daggers even when we were just sitting together."
"Ex." A wave of nausea overwhelmed me and the one word answer was all I felt able to say at the moment.
"Ahh that makes sense." We didn't speak for a while. Me trying to fight the hangover, Jack lost in thought. Eventually I felt able to speak.
"Right, how about a PJ day? I know you can't leave while the suns up and I don't think I'm physically capable of moving, so I'm thinking comedy movies, take-away food and just general laziness."
And that's what we did. We watched every Adam Sandler film I owned on DVD (which was a lot), ate LOTS of pizza and laughed even more. The mood got more somber later on when Jack asked about Mark. I told him about how he cheated on me for months before I caught him, about how Natalya always have me a smug look whenever I saw them together, about how it was torture living with them. As always though Jack made me much better about myself with strategic insults to both Mark and Natalya.
When darkness fell and I began to feel tired again Jack started to get restless.
"I'm sorry babe but I have to go. I've not fed in a few days and being in this building full of bodies is making me twitchy."
"But you had pizza a few hours ago?"
"No Scarlet, I mean I haven't fed." He put all his emphasis on the last word and I realised he meant blood.
"Oh, sorry, of course. Go and feed. I'll see you soon." Before I could blink he was gone.
