11. Chapter eleven

I was laughing so hard that I got hiccups and had to go sit down. Jack went to the bar and returned with a glass of water and tray of shots. He set them down on the table and I eyed him skeptically. "This ones first, to stop you making that awful sound" he said handing me the water, "then when you're all sorted I thought we'd have some fun with these." He grinned a devilish grin and gestured to the shots. I smiled back and sipped at my water as I let my gaze wander to my group of friends, which Mark and Natalya had just joined. It felt easier to be in Jack's company than theirs. I didn't have to pretend to be strong the whole time, and lets face it, he was plenty strong enough for both of us! I preferred to company of a dead man to that of the living. What did that say about me? I could feel myself starting to fall into 'dwell mood' so I shoved a shot into Jack's hand, picked one up myself, said cheers and drained it. Jack's devilish grin returned as he downed his without a wince. "Right then Scarlet, let's have some fun!" "What do you have in mind?" "I was thinking a game of dare, we each set each other tasks to do. If we succeed the task setter takes a shot, if we fail we take a shot." "Sounds fair. I'll go first..." I paused, surveying the crowd trying to find a suitable victim. My eyes fell on Natalya. "You see the girl in the leather catsuit?" He nodded. "Go and ask her if she picked that outfit up in the children's section!" He eyes flashed and before I could blink he used his vampire speed and was standing behind Natalya. He winked at me before whispering something in her ear. She grabbed at her cleavage and turned and gave him a worried look before running to the toilets, presumably to check a mirror. He returned to my side in a flash and I drank the obligatory shot. "That was easy. Right, you have to get that guy dressed as Wolverine to buy you a drink. What can I say, it seems poetic." It turned out a lot easier than I expected, our mutual costumes proving to be a great icebreaker. I wandered back to Jack fresh drink in hand as Jack shook his head and downed his shot. "Right, you have to get the blonde dressed as a zombie to give her your number. And no mind control doo dah!!" And on it went until the club closed. Dare after dare. Shot after shot. It was one of the most enjoyable nights of my life.
