Elizabeth saw a bright light through her eyelids. She heard various clinks and the whirring of machines. Elizabeth realized he was lying on a sort of cot with a thin blanket covering her body up to her shoulders. She felt a cold damp cloth on her forehead and a drop of water trickle down her neck.
“Elizabeth?” A voice called to her, “Elizabeth wake up”
“Beth?” A different voice asked.
“Beth? Why did you just call her Beth?” The first voice asked
“She told me to call her Liz or Beth. I thought Beth suited her better”
“Don’t you think Beth is a little ol-“
“Old fashioned?” Roger’s voice finished in a bitter tone
“What’s wrong with a little old fashioned?” Beth asked as she opened her eyes.
Steve Rogers and Tony Stark rushed over and bent over her.
“Dr. Banner! She’s awake!” Tony called behind him.
“How are you feeling?” Steve asked.
“Ugh uhm not bad. Can I get up?” Beth asked. She propped herself up on one elbow and put her other hand to her forehead. Steve put a hand on her back to steady her as Dr. Banner ran up to her with a transparent tablet looking thing. He held it up to her head and then put a liquid capsule on her tongue. Instantly her headache went away. Beth blinked as Dr. Banner shined a light in her eyes to see her response time.
“Alright Eliz- ah Beth, you levels seem fine” Dr. Banner concluded. A beeping noise came from behind him. He, Steve, and Beth turned to the noise. Tony quickly walked up to a far screen and looked at as Beth swung her feet off the table and let them hang.
“What are the results?” Fury asked walking into the room. They were in the laboratory Beth had seen earlier. She watched as a few agents walked past the room and through the hallway to various adjacent rooms, many to the control room.
“Results of what?” Beth asked a little slowly
“The results of your blood test. We took a vial while you were passed out to determine the extent to your powers.” Dr. Banner sat on a stool beside Beth with a clipboard in hand, “What is the last thing you remember?”
Beth put a hand to her head and racked her brains, “Uhm I think I was flying…and invisible? And then I hit Iron Man to the ground…and then…nothing”
“Mhmm I see” Dr. Banner wrote a few notes on his clipboard. A few silent moments passed as Banner stared at his paper in deep thought.
“The results Dr. Banner” Fury prodded.
“Ah yes. If you will all look here-“ Dr. Banner showed Beth’s results on a large screen in the middle of the room. Beth heard the door open behind her and knew the rest of the Avengers had joined them in the room. Various numbers and graphs were scattered along the screen in a pattern that only Dr. Banner and Tony Stark seemed to understand.
“Hmmm” Stark said looking at the numbers as his hand stoked his tiny beard/goatee.
“Interesting right?” Banner asked.
Steve stepped closer to the screen, “I’m sorry but can someone please explain this in English?”
Dr. Banner turned from the screen and looked at Steve and then at Beth, “It seems like Beth possesses inhuman-like reaction time and intuition. Her body has the ability to fly and turn invisible. Her muscles can also exert an intense power…if the muscles are present of course”
Beth shifted uncomfortably on the table; she was very aware of her lack of muscles.
“Of course all the powers have to be practiced and controlled and that takes time. I doubt we have time with the threat of Loki” Natasha said from the doorway. Another beeper went off beside Stark.
“Actually we do have some time” Stark replied, “It looks like this wormhole thing won’t be hitting Earth until 4 weeks from now. We won’t know where until about 24 hours before but at least we know an approximate time.”
“Alright then,” Fury told the group, “Banner and Stark will keep researching this, Hawkeye, Agent Romanov and Cap will train Elizabeth. Flacon will assist Agent Hill with preparing our weapons to whatever Loki brings.” He turned to Beth as Natasha, Hill, Barton and Falcon left the room. “So Elizabeth, if you are to be part of the Avengers you will need a suit and a name.”
