I'm not sure how long it's been since Zack and Austen attempted their first escape from this room, but it has certainly been days. My tiresome nights failed to provide me with sleep as Austen and Zack took it in turns to watch over me. Due to not wanting them to find out I was unable to sleep, I pretended I was. Which wasn't very hard.
At the moment it's early morning, still dark outside, and I was thinking about when would be the day we could escape. The place started to stink of blood due to Austen constantly being dragged out and being beaten down. That's a point, he hasn't been back since last night. Maybe they're still talking or arguing with him.
"Kaitlyn." Zack rolled over onto his side to look straight at me. I turned my head and saw his dark eyes watching me. I smiled softly, making Zack let out a short moment of laughter. "I know you're awake."
"I know you do." I don't know why I decided to whisper. Must be the night instincts taking over me. I know I haven't been able to sleep for a while, but my tiredness must be taking over my instincts as well as mind. "I can't sleep."
"Me neither." Zack took my hand in his before caressing the back of my hand gently. His eyes looked back up into mine as he smiled weakly. "I'm just worried about you. That's all."
"You don't need to be worried about me." I pull myself forwards slightly so I could rest my head on Zack's chest. Memories of staying out by the lake came back to me as tears formed in my eyes. "I hope we're not going to be stuck in here when the baby's born."
"Me too." He pressed his lips on the top of my head as he wrapped his arms around me. "Seeing you getting weaker and weaker every day worries me. Especially when Austen is being taken out every day as well. I just don't want you to be hurt the way he has."
"I'll be fine." Shifting myself into a comfier position, I notice Zack had strained his voice at the last part. "You know, I'm sure we'll figure out how to get out of here before anything bad happens. I know we will."
"I hope you're right." I couldn't help but smile as he agreed with me. "I wonder what's taken Austen so long to be brought back. They usually only take him for a few hours at night and all afternoon during the day. Do you think they've...?"
"Killed him?" I finish the question for him. "I don't think so. I'm sure his father wouldn't want to kill his own son. Especially when and if he dies, his son would have been the only heir able to take his place until someone fights him to become alpha."
"Good point." Zack's spare hand moved from his side down to my stomach which has been growing faster than I thought it would have. Every now and then, it would double in size before going back to the size it had been before growing. I've just assumed that it's the baby transforming inside of me. Although I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have made my belly grow another couple of inches within fortnight. "Do you ever wonder if the baby is not just one baby, it's twins or maybe even a litter?"
"Maybe." I haven't thought about that. You know, he could be right. After all, my baby bump has been growing faster than most for the last few months and there's no way a normal baby would be able to grow at that rate. So it must be twins!
"Get off of me!" I heard Austen's voice as something crashed on the other side of the door. Just as I was about to get up to welcome Austen inside, he opened the door with the most relaxed look across his face that I have ever seen. Smiling, he opened his arms out wide and gestured towards the empty hall. "Well, come on then!"
"Yes!" Zack stood up instantly. Pulling me up with both hands, I noticed my legs were a lot weaker since the last time I stood up. Which was a few days ago. Considering I haven't eaten anything in the last few days, I've probably not gained any of the strength that I need. "Come on, I'll carry you."
"I don't think that's a very good idea." Austen muttered, looking down the hall at something that neither Zack or I could see. "From the looks of things, due to my irrational escaping from the throne room, every wolf in the surrounding area will be after us. Plus the fact, carrying a preggo girl is probably not a good idea when ten times the amount of us will be charging from every direction."
"Are you serious?" Zack looked like he was whining because he didn't get to have his favourite toy. Yes, I'm using that as a metaphor because right now I needed to cheer myself up. I don't know how the heck I'm going to be able to get out of here, but I sure hope it's going to be soon. From the looks of things, Zack is more persistent about carrying me than fighting off the wolves and getting to safety.
"Zack, just face it." I stroll over to Austen calmly. "You're not going to be able to carry me and fight off the Cerda Pack at the same time." I raise my hand as he was about to protest. "I'll be able to manage fine. I'm pregnant not disabled."
"She has a point, Z." Austen let out a soft blow as he made his black hair flow to the side. "Kaitlyn can walk. Maybe a little slower than we hoped, but it's better than it could have been."
"Fine." Zack grumbled, making his way past us and down the hall to where the open exit was ruined. "Let's get out of here before they find us."
Zack took my hand as Austen lead us through the crooked hallways and rotting doors. At first, I thought we were lost. Until Austen kicked open a side door that I failed to see as we approached. I heard scuttling in the distance. The Cerda Pack can't be that fast, can they? I certainly hope not.
"Ladies first." Austen took a hold of my spare hand gently as he put his right arm around my waist. Lifting me over the splinters that poked out of the wooden door, I noticed Zack had given Austen a considerable look. That was odd. Very odd. Maybe he was considering whether or not to have let Austen do that. Oh well, too late now.
"Stop right there!" My head turned to see a couple of men holding Zack back. Austen's eyes looked wide and alert as his father was stood a few feet away from him inside. My first thoughts were to run, but I didn't want to leave the boys alone when they have already helped me so much. "Where do you think you're going?!"
"Out of here!" Austen punched one of the guards faces before grabbing Zack's arm and jumping over the broken door. After nearly tumbling into me, Zack muttered for me to stay behind them as we all turned to face the alpha. "And there's no way you can stop us."
"Oh really?" The alpha quirked his brow in amusement before laughing. "How are 3 teenagers, such as yourselves, going to defeat 100, maybe 200 wolves?"
"Wait, what?!" I shriek, trying go around Austen and Zack to try and attack Austen's dad. "You are NOT..."
"Oh, I am." He stepped forward, grabbing a hold of my arm before thrusting me between his son and Zack. "And I'm going to take you to my throne room so you can watch the war."
