I open my eyes startled as I felt something wet touch the side of my face. Hitting my head against the rock, I notice Austen was here. In wolf form. His golden-green eyes were very close to mine as he sniffed the space where my head was laid. What the heck?! Where on earth is Zack?! My answers were fulfilled the moment I heard something drop to the ground a few feet away from me.
Stood there in only his shorts, Zack stared at Austen as though he was a beast. Pulling myself back, I tried my best to hide the hurt I brought myself. Noticing my attention had shifted from him, Austen turned towards Zack who now had his bow and arrow in place. I tried my best to stay calm, but failed as Austen's growl grew louder and louder.
"Get away from her." Zack spoke surprisingly neutral, considering his face didn't hide the fact that he was clearly annoyed.
"And what if I don't?" What sounded like a snicker escaped Austen's wolf form. "You can't do anything, weakling."
"What did you just call me?!" Zack's eyes flared up and I could tell that he was not impressed with the name Austen had nicknamed him.
"Weakling." Austen burst out into laughter, once it came down to a hush, he continued. "Because you are one."
"I am NOT a weakling!" Zack snarled between his teeth. Something snapped, as I noticed Zack's back arched. My eyes widen as realization dawned on me. Zack was transforming. Not into anything, but he was transforming into a wolf. I can't believe this! He brought me to safety from a wolf pack knowing full well that he was one too!
Before I could go into any more thought, Zack lunged himself straight into Austen. My eyes widen as Austen's mouth shut as Zack's paw went to swipe his shoulder. Yelps came from both wolves as they tackled each other. As they both went barreling into the water, growls and yelps were muffled as I felt my body heating up again. Oh no, please don't start the whistling. Preparing myself, I covered my ears.
"Leave!" Zack howled, scratching the side of Austen's face. Austen took no notice to the new scar that was to form in that area and decided to attack. My eyes widened yet again as I could hear the sound of teeth ripping into the flesh underneath Zack's fur. OK, now that definitely made me feel like I was going to puke. Again. Once Austen had completed his mission of pulling out a whole patch of Zack's fur, so you could actually see bone, he ran off into the distance. Leaving Zack whining quietly on the side of the river.
"Oh boy." I murmur, letting another load of stomach filling come up once again. Where the heck is this coming from?! Wiping my mouth with the back of my hand, I crawl over to Zack's side. Slowly and steadily, he transformed back into human form. The large bite was now showing in the side of his large chest. Not really knowing what to do, I decide to rip off a piece of material from the bottom of my shirt and tied it around his chest so it would cover up the wound. Sitting back a little, I notice Zack was looking up at me with bright eyes.
"Thanks Sierra." He murmured as I pulled him up into a sitting position. We both sat there in silence for a long while. Both of us were watching the running water that were refreshing our feet. I was wondering how the heck I managed to run away from a pack of wolves right along with another wolf. Wasn't I supposed to be getting away from wolves altogether? Finally, Zack spoke in a low voice that I could hear clearly. "What happened?"
"You attacked Austen." I answer truthfully. What more could I do? I don't exactly want to lie to the one person who has kind of protected me. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Tell you what?" Zack raised his head to look into my eyes.
"That you're a werewolf."
