I have an uncle? From which side of my parents family is he from? I didn't even know my parents would have lived anywhere near here. So if my uncle was living not far from the wolf pack, does he know about the wolves? And does he know anything about where my parents are? I wonder if my parents live in the area. I hope they do. At least then I can find out where I get my hunting skills and strange pain stander from.
"Since when did I have family?" I splutter, still trying my best to hide how much pain was running up and down me. I really wish this would stop. Why do I have to be the one who is ill? Why do I have to be the one who was beaten down by whoever crushed every piece of pride I had before I lost everything I knew.
"Since your mother and father decided to break the rules." Charlie knelt down next to me. While pulling my arm over his shoulders, he stood up. My legs disobeyed my actions as I fell against my uncle. Surprisingly, he didn't complain about my lack of weight and double the amount of left feet as I fell against him. "Come on, let's get you to the GP."
"Why?" I moaned as I was being carried, and I said carried because my feet had refused to take part with the rest of my working body. Groaning as I get lifted into the passenger seat of Charlie's Jeep, I fail to realize that he was actually taking me to someone who can help.
"After a year with no human contact, I think you need something to help you heal." After making sure I was buckled up correctly, Charlie went over to the driver's side and got in himself. "What have you been doing for the last few months?"
"I don't know." I murmur, letting the cool breeze coming through the car window bring me down to a suitable temperature. "Why don't you ask the person who locked me in a shack?"
"You got what?!" His eyes looked alarmed after my small question. What's the deal with me and being locked in a shack anyway? Oh well, I'm just glad I'm finally somewhere safe rather than wandering the forest alone. Double glad now that I'm with a family member who might actually know something about me. "Well, you can talk about it while we wait for the doctor to check you over in the hospital."
"So the hospital and the GP are in the same place?" Wow, this really must be some place I'm in. I really hope nothing else happens in the space of now and arriving at the hospital. "Who knew demands were that high around here?"
"There's no point having two separate buildings when you can save costs by having just one." Huh, why has the car suddenly stopped? Were we at the lights or something? "Come on, we're here now."
"Wow, that was fast." I fumble with my fingers as I try to undo my seat-belt. Luckily for me, Charlie came to my rescue and found the button, freeing me from the surprisingly tight leather seat-belt. Jumping down, I grab the handle of the Jeep door as I try to stand up properly. Obviously I need some lessons on how to walk after riding in a car.
"Here, let me." Out of nowhere, Charlie appeared pushing one of those basic black wheelchairs that you get in hospitals. They were the ones you could fold up and store away so you could save space for more things. Reluctantly, I sat down in the surprisingly comfy wheelchair. Within seconds, Charlie had pushed me through the automatically sliding double doors and up to the large front desk that stood a few meters inside. "We need a doctor right away."
"OK, what have you done this time?" There was a short red-head who rounded the corner. She wore a buttoned up lab coat that reached down past her knees cos it was a tad too big for her. The doctor's eyes widened as her gaze reached me. "Kaitlyn, where have you been? Charlie, why didn't you tell me you found Kaitlyn?"
"I only just found her outside the cottage this morning." I get rolled along in the same direction the doctor was walking. "I just wanted to get her checked in case anything serious happened to her while she was gone. I also want to find the sheriff so he can have a search of the area for whoever shut her in that abandoned cabin at the edge of town."
"Oh, you was locked in there?" When I nodded, she continued while pulling me up onto the hospital bed. "I'm surprised no one found you there."
Charlie left the room to go and find some food for me to munch on while I had the tests. Not a word was spoken as I obeyed the doctor's instructions. I had a little blood taken along with giving a urine sample. There was one moment when she mentioned an x-ray to make sure all my bones were in tact. Coming back with notes in her hands, the doctor asked if she could just press against my stomach to make sure it is just a tummy bug.
"Huh?" She pressed again, face deep in thought. After several moments staying in that position, she raised her index finger as she left the room. "Just hold on a minute, I need to go and get something."
Why does she need to get something? Was there something that I didn't know about this stomach bug? Obviously, considering she was confused and was in the same position for a couple of minutes. Shifting my legs, I looked around the room. There wasn't much in here, only the hospital bed and a couple of chairs along with a table with a button on it. Presumably so I could send for the doctor if something got worse.
"Sorry it took me so long." The female doctor looked even shorter as she wheeled a very large machine into the room. "Now, if you don't mind, I'd like to take your shorts and underwear off while I check something."
"Excuse me?!" I raise my voice in alarm. Why the heck does she want me to strip off everything from the waist down?! From the looks of things, she wants to stick that metal thing up my vagina. I know, GROSS!
"I just need to check something." She smiled as reassuringly as she could. "It won't take long, I promise."
"Ugh, fine." Raising my hips, I unbutton my shorts and pull down both layers. After waiting a few moments for the doctor to connect the machine to the wall, she came across. Kneeling down, her face turned to intense concentration as the shiny metal thing touched the insides of my down below. "CHRIST ALIVE, THAT'S COLD!"
A load of curses and bad language later, she finally pulled it back out and wheeled the chattering machine back out of the room. Okay? I wonder what that was all about. Must be important cos I've been sitting here waiting for her for about five minutes. I'm too tired to think now, let alone speak. I wonder what's taking them so long. That's a point, where is my Uncle Charlie?
"Sorry it took us so long, Kaitlyn." Speaking of which, the doctor came back in with Charlie on her heels. Good thing they got here because I was just about to get up and go look for them myself. Thank goodness for that.
"Kaitlyn, can you remember anything that's happened in the last year?" Charlie looked seriously concerned about something they have yet to inform me. Glancing between the two of them, I shake my head in confirmation that I don't remember anything.
"Are you sure?" When I nodded again, the doctor sat on the side of the bed, taking my hand in hers as she looked at me with disappointment filling her eyes. That's odd, why would they be disappointed in me? What did I do to make them act all concerned twice as much as before. "Kaitlyn, I hate to say this but..." She looked at Charlie for some form of comfort.
