Long conversations, short visits, rushing heartbeats, smiles and laughs, love and too many missing times… That’s usual in a relationship but in my relationship there were those things and even more.
Nick and I had been together for 2 years by now. And let me tell you that those were the best two years of my life; he was so much more than everything I’ve always wanted.
Not even us knew how time passed since we decided to date but we were happy. We grew and maturated together. We couldn’t see each other as frequently as we wished but we knew that the closeness of the soul was that one thing that kept us going.
The Jonas Brothers were still together but each one of them tried to work on something else too. Nick was living in New York City and working as a professional music producer; Joe was still at LA on the acting thing and trying to keep his singer career by Demi’s side (yes, they were together again); Kevin had been a lucky father and husband who was living at New Jersey and also songwriting for other people like One Direction, Miranda Cosgrove and Cody Simpson.
I was working as a writer for a Mexican TV show but I had sent my documents and work resume to get a job as a Broadway musical writer or as a magazine photographer. It was one of my dreams, being part of something so big as Broadway or Vogue and also I would be closer to my dear Nicholas.
Brenda had already married Adam and they were enjoying life in Florida as Disney’s executives. For Nathalie things were going pretty good too, she was an extraordinary art director, she had already created the scenery for some Hollywood films, Broadway musicals and…
“Oh my god! I’ll be there of course!” I told her on the phone.
“Thank you! You and Brenda are going to be the most beautiful bridesmaids!”
“I can’t believe you’re getting married! Darren is such a lucky guy!” I said with enthusiasm. I was really happy for her, she was one of my best friends and she deserved the best.
“I know, right?” She giggled. “Anyway, Darren will call Nick too so you will be able to see each other again… By the way, talking about Nick, has he already proposed yet?”
“Thank you... Not yet, but let me tell you that we’re good like this for now. I really want to focus on my career.”
“I’m sure you’ll get both jobs! You’re an amazing writer and photographer!”
“I hope New Yorkers will think just like you.” I said. “Geez, Nathalie I’m really happy for you! You’re living your dream! New York, the perfect guy… Wow.”
“Yes! Darren and I always thought about New York as our ideal place to live in. And I’m sure you will come along soon.”
“I hope so.” I sighed and tried to stay positive about my work thing. “And when’s the wedding? Where? Are you guys going to have a honeymoon?”
“Well, we don’t have everything plan yet but…”
Nathalie gave me the details of her wedding and it seemed that Brenda and I must be at least two weeks before the wedding in New York, to help with little details. I was sure Nathalie had already figured out how our dresses would be and I was really excited about it, because she’s always loved fashion and that assured me that our dresses and everything else about her special day, would be perfect.
Nick called me that night; he was surprised but really happy for them to get together for the rest of their lives. He suggested me to stay at his place on the wedding days. I wasn’t exactly broke, but I was saving money in case I’d get the job, so I accepted.
Once more I was going on a quick trip that would change everything.
